One other thing for beaky to consider and plan for - what seats ar the ultras going to demand? If they are in the corporate areas that will impact the revenue - or will he grow a pair and lessen their control of the club when the ground is only 2/3rds toilet? Interesting times.
Seeing as how Beaky has such a hard on for the 'ultras' maybe they need a new name? The Beaky Plonkers has a ring to it.

Having got plum seats behind the goal and apparently not liking modern football they will only demand to stay where they are.

Beaky will never grow a pair. Still searching for the yobs that injured their own steward at our place aren't they?.

A lot of bitterness on here. We’re getting a new ,long overdue, main stand and it will move us on as a club. All good in my eyes .
It's amusement and joy that we can take from 2013 - you had the chance to progress, to put some serious foundations down that could have protected the club. We imploded a little with Hyppia and a weird period where the club was up its own arse (recuitment of players and managers alike) - you had three years to adapt to the PL and progress, taking the huge revenue and investing it in the club. That was what was galling about that 2013 loss, we were so clearly better than you even then but allowed you the opportunity to redress that.

But you didn't, you did what you always do. Chuck money around with no plan to progress. A pass through account into the hands of bang average players and managers, stinking out the PL year after year, neagtive football and made up history. It has made 2013 a cause for celebration, what we are achieving now may not have been achieved without that - and Palace have failed to make anything out of it. Glorious! There is no bitterness I can assure you.

I sincerely hope the new stand is built. I see a Darlington, Oxford type story in the future and do feel very sorry for the designers, contractors, suppliers that may risk their livelihood by taking on such a task for such a client. There'll be a few no-go's for that Tender no doubt!

Yes you are correct, it needs doing. And yes it will be a drain on resources but that maybe the reason the new academy took priority ?

Changing the subject a bit but went to old Trafford a couple of weeks ago the first time in 10+ years and was shocked by the state of it, like the old Wembley “ all fur coat and no knickers”
I'm hoping that is not a relative assessment to Palace's ground. Old trafford is certainly tired, but its got a long decline to reach palace levels of decline

Pretty sure there was a bid to build a stadium at Crystal Palace park.
Not sure why that didn't happen

Inaccessible!, three mainline railway stations within 10 minutes walk, one of the easier grounds in London to get to I would have thought.

There are not many if any development land that you could build a football stadium on in the area.

Crystal Palace park would be great but, the locals would not have it as they are quite happy to see the swimming pool and athletics stadium full into disrepair, not only that it’s in Bromley Kent.

I sit in the Holmesdale end and it’s as good as any football stand, lots of bars and places to eat there would be no reason to develop it.

Also for a lot of us the thought of relocating to somewhere else in the borough is not what we would want in fact I would rather the stadium was left as it is than move away….in life there must be roots, my parents and grandparents lived within 5 minutes walk my first job was a stones throw away, the pubs I drunk in were around the area, nearly all those things have gone now Selhurst park is the only constant. ( getting a bit gushy there but some of you must feel the same about the Goldstone?)

Yep, away at Villa the facilities are poor - concourses are cramped and facilities awful - and it's got games for EURO 28 too - not sure how.
I couldn't agree more. I was amazed when I read it was one of the chosen stadiums. I can only assume they wanted games in the Midlands to add to the geographical spread??

The Arthur Waite stand is not so much "All fur coat and no knickers" as "Moth-eaten piss-smelling tramp overcoat and no knickers. (Or bra)."

Nothing wrong with improving the ground. They absolutely should be doing that.
The issue I have is Parish stating that this is required to make them competitive in the league.

Arsenal famously became much less competitive because they prioritised paying off their new ground.
Similar arguments were levelled at Spurs.

For both these teams building a new stadium was a long term vision of where they needed to be to keep up with United and Liverpool.
They had the revenue to be competitive in the transfer market, but needed the extra edge to keep them at the very top and FFP compliant.
Spurs in particular have maximised their potential by building a venue that can be used for other events outside of the football season.

Palace on the other hand, are fishing in a different pond, they are struggling to be competitive in the transfer market as it is.
Spending £150m to increase revenue by a maximum of £10m per season doesn't fix that.
Adding one decent stand, won't turn Selhurst into a multi-use stadium either.
Dunno, could a speedway series there over the summer

Could not afford to buy a house for one and my company moved down to East grinstead for two. Mum moved to Warlingham when I was two, but grandparents lived in South Norwood to they passed and I worked in next to Mayday hospital.

So yes my families roots are from that area even though I am not anymore.

I've just read the new posts about the ringfenced (twice over) stand & I see @Dougie getting very excited about it! But then I see @loz & even @eaglesdan being pragmatic about it & they have a sensible conversation about the 'actual' planning involved. I feel so bloody lucky with our owner, he basically built a new stadium & a training ground at Lancing. Old Trafford is f**ked & they have sh*t loads of cash.
As much as like the rivalry, I can't help but feel sad that the stand is unlikely to be built & that your ground is falling further into a state of disrepair. We've been there & done that, they ended up selling the land with no home to go to. There wasn't enough money to upgrade it, so the owners took the cash for themselves. Why are you all so trusting when you went into administration not that long ago?

I'd heard The Tunnel Club might prove popular; it's slightly different to Brighton and Spurs et al, it's a tunnel from Selhurst Station to the Main Stand, this saves you having to navigate the mean streets of Selhurst and allows you to arrive safely in the ground.

whilst I loathe to defend Palace staying in the Prem for ten years and looking a relatively secure mid table team is a huge success that few who come up can replicate. It would also be fair to say that Tony has had much more vision and strategic plan than beaky but he’s also invested a lot more of his own money.
It is also a fact that repeatedly defaulting on debts, being passed from one to another without the burden of such debts, is what allowed Palace to remain in the top two divsions. Also the investors have put a lot of money into Palace, in addition to the PL funding over a longer period.

Tony's injection of cash was essential to build from a position of nothing, no ground or training facility. The vision is the big difference.

But yes, there are many clubs that would have been thankful for avoiding relegation for so long certainly.

Although I don’t know too much about the funding of the new mega super-duper stand, what I would worry about, if, God forbid, I was a Palace fan, is the fact that they have estimated a build cost of £150 million, but, haven’t appointed a construction company yet.

Shirley, it’s a bit arse about face, don’t you employ a contractor and then discuss budget with them as part of the negotiation of contracts?

I can’t see it being completed on budget, and in the time frame, these things never are.
