Dougie has gone very silent. If he had any ITK knowledge of this manager he was talking about Palace signing and how exciting it was going to be, wouldn’t he have been back on here being smug?

I don’t believe he is capable of keeping his powder dry, so I am calling deluded bullshit

Imo they should go for Bilic

Still waiting to hear from him / her as it was about 6 weeks ago he was telling us about his inside info on this excellent new manager.

I’m not counting my chickens on Nuno yet - that would be an excellent appointment for them tbf but let’s see... just can’t see a professional football club leaking they have their man and it’s just about done and that he’s their favourite etc etc and then it all falling through so they have to scramble about for managers who realise they’re an afterthought - no professional club would let this happen.

It really does beggar belief that Palace hadn't planned for this.
Hodgson's retirement was an open secret all season long.

I assumed they hadn't offered him a new contract, because they had at least one decent candidate prepped and ready to step in.
Again, had assumed this was Howe, as there would be no severance deal to be agreed.

Aligning this with the clear out of 22 out of contract players, they really couldn't have handled this any worse.

Admittedly they should be able to do well with the Covid affected market, but even then, offering Benteke a 2- year contract feels a bit of a weird one.
Has he taken a massive pay-cut?
He signed up pretty quickly so I doubt they slashed his wages down that badly.

Palace love paying average players huge wages...

Genuinely surprised, and not joking, that Palace haven’t appointed Big Sam yet.

He seemed to be popular there last time. And the brand of football is fairly aligned with Hodgson’s.

Can you imagine how much he could make from all the potential new signings!
There would be a brown paper envelope shortage across the land.

Allegedly.

What has happened that has suddenly made smug Eddie un-employable, seemed to be nailed on for the Celtic job a few weeks back and now isn't linked anywhere?

Probably his 'closed door' approach to club management along with him believing his own hype.

I did read somewhere that he is holding on for the Southampton job to become available. He clearly spoke with Celtic to try & raise a bit of interest in a 'we must go & get Eddie before Celtic do' kind of way, shame it hasn't quite worked out for him.

I think Smug Eddie’s approach of I’ll wait around for when the Southampton job becomes available is pretty arrogant. It’s clear that he doesn’t want to move house which is reasonable enough but he really must be arrogant to think that he’ll just be a shoo-in for Southampton. I hope Ralf stays there and Eddie can twiddle his thumbs for the next few years.

Also Rafa, no rumours that I’ve seen about him at all.

A few on here are of the opinion for managers the job is all about money and the size of the payoff.

I guess if you've done China you have no more mountains to climb.
