exactly....why not just give it to f***ing burkina faso?

Allez les Etalons!!!!

On a more serious note, seeing as all of the candidates were European, and the Russians pointed out that in terms of previous World Cup hosts, it's western Europe 10, Eastern Europe nil, it seems odd that anyone is surprised by this decision. Of course Russia were going to win it.

How did we lose?
Russia offers whores and drugs against our Prince,PM & Beckham its a strange world.
Our David must be believing his press cuttings I heard him on Radio state that it would be a proud moment to know he
had obtained the tournament for us,perhaps he should have shaved and combed his hair before he met the reps.

Didn't know which thread to put this comment on, so this one'll do. What the hell is David Beckham doing apologising to the English fans? He's got absolutely nothing to apologise for. He's worked hard, conducted himself with dignity, class and more intelligence than most people give him credit for, and is turning into a bloody good ambassador for the English game. It does him credit that he thinks of disappointed supporters when he must be gutted himself, but he's got no reason to be apologising to us - through this whole process he's not put a foot wrong and can come out of it with his chin up.

Do we know who voted for us?

Thompson and...

according to Saggers on Talksport, one of the 3 exposed by Panorama ???

Think about it, getting one of those 3 to vote for us makes it look as though the allegations didn't go against us.

I agree that FIFA are a corrupt organisation but to be honest i wouldn't do business with the English Football Association.
The build of Wembly was a total disgrace.
The different standards they held depending on the name of the club that was going into administration.
Choice of England manager not in keeping with the fans choice for decades.
Old school tie twats.
Years of incompetence!

I agree FIFA need sorting out but we should get our own house in order otherwise Pot & Kettle comes to mind!

Tactical voting. It means that two who actually wanted Russia or Spain, voted instead for Holland in round 1, to see a potential threat in England eliminated early. Then, once we were out of the running, they switched their vote. That's how it works.

That would make sense of England's poor showing but does it explain the 2022 bidding process which just looks bizarre? The votes in that one seem to be all over the shop.

and only 1 vote for Australia for 2022, ffs. Football is now dead in the water here, no one is going to plough the sort of cash that frank Lowy has been doing into the game and dear old Frank will be dead before the next bidding round for 2026. FIFA say it's all about spreading the world game to all corners of the earth - like f*** it is, Qatar in air conditioned stadiums, might suit those pampered EPL players but seriously....

FIFA seems to have a problem with England hosting anything, in my opinion we should no longer bid for anymore world cups and just wait to be invited to stage it.
Saving a lot of money in the bidding farce whist also showing the contempt that the organisation deserves.
As far as Qatar beating Australia, it's all down to oil money backhanders.
I don't get it, FIFA say that they want to reach more people in non footballing areas to generate an interest in the sport, then give the reason for not picking Australia as 'because the returns would not be high enough', hence proving that the incentives to host are purely financial and lets face it there's plenty of oil money in Russia.
With the A league here just starting to take off Australia would have been a good decision.
Is FIFA a not for profit organisation or is it a registered business?

It shows that Cameron and the royal family actually have zero clout in the real world.

The moment I saw that slimy bastard Abramovich walking in, with a smarmy grin on his face, I knew our bid was f***ed. It could not have been more obvious if he had pulled a big wad of cash out and waved it shoutnig "loadsofmoney" Harry Enfield stlye.

The worst thing is our FA have prostituted us for the last 3 years to guarantee votes, dragging us out to Trinidad and Tobago, Qatar with future games all but arranged in Thailand and Copenhagen to guarantee votes... These promises have now not been met, when will the FA learn ??

Sky Sports News said they thought it could have been Japan which was our other vote. Not that it matters now. If FIFA want world cups to go to places it hasnt been before to reach new fans etc then basically we (along with Spain/Portugal) had lost before it began!! All that time and money spent for sod all!!!

Euro 2020 maybe???

Listening to the 5live podcast, it was the African representative that was exposed in Panorama that they reckon voted for us.

I don't want to see us even think about bidding for another major championship until FIFA/UEFA clear themselves of corruption in the same way that the IOC did post-Salt Lake City. This has been a waste of £15m that the FA can scarely afford, and more importantly has compromised the decision-making inside the FA. Call me nieve but I'd never realised quite how much we'd done in the name of politick-ing.

Stabbed Lenart Johannsen in the back to support Blatter for the FIFA presidency in 1998 (to woo Jack Walker).
Provided coaches to the Thai national team (to woo the Thai representative).
Friendlies all over the place.
Pulled Man Utd out of the FA Cup.
etc,etc

Your statement leads me to believe you are not in touch with reality. We all know the system is corrupt but I am sure that we finished where we did because :-

a) We didn't try to bribe anyone.
b) Our media sucks.
c) Members of the committee who had indicated their intention to vote for us were persuaded otherwise by fair means or (probably) foul.

There is no way in an honest vote that we would have picked up only one vote! It would be interesting to see who that was and who the likes of Beckenbaur and Platini voted for (although you would put your mortgage on the fact that in a straight race between England and the Gaza Strip Platini would vote for the later).

1) It is all too easy to say it is simply because we didn't bribe anyone. Whilst that is probably true as regards not winning it I don't think it can explain our total humiliation.
2) I would suggest it is other countries media that sucks. It is not the medias job to win a world cup bid. It is their job to report the corruption rife in FIFA and they are beginning to do a good job.

I've felt for a little while now that I didn't particularly want to host the World Cup when you realise what you have to do to get it. It's not about stadiums, transport links and certainly not about football .... it's about letting the World of FIFA decend, changing the laws they want, giving themselves and their sponsors massive tax-breaks, even without some very tasty under-the-table payments.

The sight of respected legends of the game like David Beckham standing there on stage basically grovelling to his highness the Lord of Blatter about being given the great honour of hosting the World Cup, was actually the final nail.

If we have to prostrate ourselves at their feet, beg and get all tearful (Arshavin !) to be bestowed this MASSIVE honour of letting the gravy train roll into town, then I say good riddance to it.

Why aren't all the international football associations who make up FIFA (there are over 200 of them) each allowed a vote? That surely would be the simplest and most democratic method. The way it work at the moment, which just 22 people making the decision and 'block' and tactical voting, means it will always be open to bribery and corruption. It would be very difficult to nobble 220 FAs without word getting out.
