I’m not sure I have as much sympathy with Palace as some. They got a player they rated for a relatively small sum and signed him over others who were in for him quite possibly because they agreed the release clause. They might not have got him had they not agreed this? So don’t see the issue on this transfer in isolation.

My bigger issue is the lack of teeth FFP has. If Chelsea are cheating they should face relegation, banning from European competition etc. Instead they will get a fine that they can clearly afford.
….precisely why we don’t like release clauses……

What's the reason why they got him "stupidly" cheap when buying him from Reading?
He was championship player of the year. Looked really good. Why did he only go for 8 million. It didn't make sense at the time (check the thread on here when this transfer happened). And it still doesn't really make sense.

He had a release clause there as well……£8m-odd
Ahh ok. And then palace were the only team that were willing to allow a relatively low release clause.

Still it's pretty good business for them. Not all teams are transfer gods like us.

So we didn't know the reason why they got him so cheap, but now we do because Dazzer has told us he had a release fee.

This is the main reason why we don't muck about with release clauses unless it strengthens our hand overall (e.g Mac Allister).

As much as I’m enjoying Palace’s impotent rage, my enjoyment is tarnished somewhat by the fact it’s Chelsea hoovering up yet more talent and playing their usual games to get the deal over the line.

Yer I'm still on the fence with this one. Why would we turn down 1 season of a player plus 27 million profit?

Yup, fines are pointless to those who break FFP by spending crazy amounts. Points deductions and transfer embargo should be the initial action.

If you want a reality check, then read post #42 in this thread.

People are seriously comparing our childish (but fun) pantomime rivalry with palace to the financialized destruction of football, which in itself is just part of a process by which almost everything in society that matters is being destroyed by the toxic combination of greed and power?
It's one club that's going down this route. They had superstars in their squad last year and flopped and they may well do the same again this year as their squad is bloated. I think I'm right in that this is the first time Boehly has had the reigns of a sports club as his other interests in US are minority holdings.

Here we go again. Left Wing Chat. I try to stay out of the tiresome political threads, but now every bloody thread is bombed by the Leftwaffe. 🙄
Yeh. Can’t read anything on here without yoghurt knitters, trying to bring in socialism through the backdoor on every football thread

What else did you expect from Tory scum like me? Anyway back on topic, I wish we could hijack this deal, we could do with more right wingers imo.😘

Sounds like tittle tattle to me. Three years left on his contract. Palace won't let him go anywhere unless the price is stupid and apparently, Chelsea won't pay stupid prices this window. His agent will know that such rumours have previously earned Zaha very generous new contracts from a short termist board always looking over its shoulder, panicked that one bad season will bring down the house of cards permanently..
“Won’t pay stupid prices this window” aged well..
