I’m not sure I have as much sympathy with Palace as some. They got a player they rated for a relatively small sum and signed him over others who were in for him quite possibly because they agreed the release clause. They might not have got him had they not agreed this? So don’t see the issue on this transfer in isolation.

My bigger issue is the lack of teeth FFP has. If Chelsea are cheating they should face relegation, banning from European competition etc. Instead they will get a fine that they can clearly afford.

Still it's pretty good business for them. Not all teams are transfer gods like us.

People are seriously comparing our childish (but fun) pantomime rivalry with palace to the financialized destruction of football, which in itself is just part of a process by which almost everything in society that matters is being destroyed by the toxic combination of greed and power?

It's one club that's going down this route. They had superstars in their squad last year and flopped and they may well do the same again this year as their squad is bloated. I think I'm right in that this is the first time Boehly has had the reigns of a sports club as his other interests in US are minority holdings.

Sounds like tittle tattle to me. Three years left on his contract. Palace won't let him go anywhere unless the price is stupid and apparently, Chelsea won't pay stupid prices this window. His agent will know that such rumours have previously earned Zaha very generous new contracts from a short termist board always looking over its shoulder, panicked that one bad season will bring down the house of cards permanently..
