It isn't that funny when you really think about it, cracking a supposed joke like that, just a little immature and dated and fitting the stereotype that many southerners have about the north.

The guy who penned that intro might have upset a few Brighton fans in the process and doubtless gave the home crowd a chuckle or two, what he has succeeded in doing is to perpetrate the image that many of us have of a cultural backwater like Oldham, not much help to their club when they are trying to rally support in their survival bid.

6,000 with AIDS indeed? Where do you get such nonsense from? The estimated number of new cases of HIV infection in 2002 is 6,500 - that's the whole number of cases. Is it really likely that 6,000 of them are refugees (and that of course is HIV infection rather than full-blown AIDS)?
