I doubt they'd be too chuffed. The joke was in very poor taste, I agree, but you have to realise that the programme is done by one person, so complaining to the FA is out of order. Like I said, you weren't all getting too PC when Normandy_Seagull posted that pile of crap.

There's a difference between posting it on an unregulated and unofficial fan website and printing it in the official Club Matchday Programme.

This site is not connected to BHAFC officially in any way (as far as I know), and as such the people that run this board are the ones responsible for the content. Oldham Athletic are responsible for their official programme.

"Jokes" like that aren't going to win the club too many friends, and in the situation they're in they don't want to make enemies either.

Are we not overreacting just a tad. I thought it was funny, if we can't take a bit of ribbing then we have no right to dish it out.

Jokes are funny if they're original. Boring, boring..still we got the three points and they'll probably go down.

Now that's funny.

Your Lordship's sense of humour is priceless. keep up the good work.

I saw your reply five minutes ago. I'm still chuckling to myself.
My “joke” was not actually intended to be funny. What I was trying to do was illustrate just how easy it is to be offensive to visiting supporters. As fans on the terraces, we can get away with this – although I’m not always comfortable with the outcome.

On Saturday, we reacted quite wittily (I thought) to the chants of “Town full of faggots” with the response “Town full of racists” – but even this turned a bit nasty, when elements of the Oldham support happily acknowledged the label we’d given them.

Terrace banter is not, however, the same as a considered headline in the Club’s official programme. Football fans, whether from Brighton or Oldham deserve better than ignorant homophobia, when they spend £2.50 on a match programme.

It would be outrageous for our club to consider responding in like manner. Oldham is not a town ”full” of anything, any more than Brighton is. As it happens, Oldham is a place I have visited regularly over many years (not just for the football) and I know it to have the usual mixture of folk that can be found anywhere. Some are my friends, some are very pleasant, some are a bit odd, and there’s a minority of complete arseholes. The Oldham supporters I spoke to on Saturday were genuine, friendly football fans with interesting opinions on their Club, Chelsea, Sir Alex Ferguson, Brighton and Hove Albion and Focus DIY.

Diversity is what we should be defending. And officially sanctioned prejudice of any sort needs to be “kicked out of football” (as they say).

yes when you chanted town full of racists everyone clapped due to it being so un-original, like your "town full of rent boy" chants. The amount of time's we've heard it after that stoke game 3 years ago is unreal.

what do you expect people to do?? start going off their heads that you've branded them a racists? ??? ???

The little box that was next to us lot in the lower tier corner is a Police box, I dont know if you saw all the monitors but anyone chanting racists abuse will be found easily and banned for life.

we dealt with the chant back in the best possible way, clapping it in sarcasm, a little cry of horray with rolled eyes

I might start buying the programme again if it's like that every week:lolol: :lolol:

So Reevesy, if Brighton posted in their programme for the return leg "Oldham are in town so hide all the black players", would people see it as a joke?
Fitz Hall was not white but was loved by every single Oldham fan, Roger palmer back in the day was a god at oldham and he was black.

so hide the black players ??? ???

I've seen a few Black Oldham fans already this season pre season and not once has a comment or anything of bad taste been done or said to them. I doubt they'd keep coming back if it had.

Berk - Town full of paki's is another un-original comment we hear far too often

Exactly?? You're not all racists. The same as we're not homosexual rapists. Are you claiming that it's different because if we had a gay player we actually would all rape him?

When I go to any away game I expect homophobic chants from the home crowd. I don't like it, because of its nature and its lack of originality, but I've learned to accept it (and get bored of it).

But in this instance Oldham Athletic FC themselves are officially connected with homophobic stereotypical abuse. You don't want that.

Actually, we shoud have called you "Rapists" rather than "Racists" as demonstrated by todays lead story in the Oldham Chronicle.............................

Girl, 14, raped in Oldham

by SAMANTHA MANNION

A SECOND 14-year-old girl has been raped after a night drinking in Oldham bars.

The teenager visited several pubs in Yorkshire Street throughout Saturday night before heading off to Hollinwood Cricket Club with a friend.

However, the pair had a row while at the club and the youngster, from Chadderton, left alone and started to walk along Manchester Road, in the direction of Oldham.

It is thought that as she headed back into Oldham at around 3am on Sunday a man pulled up in a silver-coloured car and offered the girl a lift home. She refused but the offender told her to get in the car and drove her to the IMO car wash on Shaw Road, near Egerton Street, Oldham.

It is alleged that he then raped the teenager in the car before leaving her stranded.

Police believe the girl had been drinking in the Litten Tree, Mess House and Cuba Cuba on Yorkshire Street on Saturday night before heading off to Hollinwood Cricket Club.

The offender is described as Asian and was driving a silver-coloured car.

Detectives are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to call them immediately on 856 8940.

The attack comes only seven weeks after police cracked down on under-age drinkers in the town centre following the rape of another 14-year-old.

She had been at Liquid night spot with a friend but left alone at 2am to walk to a friend’s house on Oldham Edge. She was picked up in a car and raped outside the White House pub.

Tanweer Nazir (22), from the Coppice, has been charged with that rape and is being held in custody.

Aside from the fact that both crimes are utterly horrendous, what on are 14-year old girls doing out in clubs until 2 am or later? Do their parents condone it? Call me old fashioned if you like, but.......
