Oldham programme insult

Totally agree. Funny or otherwise, it shouldn't be in the programme - an embarassment to the town of Oldham.

The sad thing though Simster is that it embarassing for them is it? The mentality we encountered from most of the people in and around the ground suggested they would all think it was hilarious. In fact I would guess that more than a few of them thought "Aye, well we may have lost, but those queers will be well upset at what is in the programme."

The gay stuff doesn't bother me at all - I'm not gay, so it's not aimed at me and friends that I have who are gay just don't give any credence to moronic comments such as the one in the programme.

I think it's a disgrace, and as some people have already said, there would be an uproar if it was anything with racist content.

So what happens if we print in the programme "Oldham coming to town, so let's all make sure Leon Knight is well protected."

It's just juvenile humour (?) that has no place in the official programme. You buy a fanzine you risk getting content that you disapprove of. What one person finds offensive, someone else may find acceptable, but the official programme has to be very careful not to offend anyone.

Surely the point is that it IS aimed at those who aren't gay, but who would be upset at the insinuation. The point, rather, is that you can only take it as an insult if you think being gay is bad. I don't, and that's that as far as I am concerned. Somebody who calls me gay is just mistaken.

The twat who wrote it, however, is a homophobic little shit, and it is on that basis that I find the comments offensive, not that he is suggesting we are gay. We are not being insulted with such language, as far as I am concerned - gays are being insulted.

If you want to, presumably Oldham. If they do nothing, the League?

Dunfermline's programme editor is in trouble after publishing something about 'ripping up' Celtic fans in last Saturday's programme. Dunfermline are 'investigating' and may be disciplining the individual(s) involved.

But surely this is saying that hetrosexuals cannot be offended or made to feel uncomfortable by homophobic comments. I disagree. I am a white hetrosexual but I do take exception to racist or gay comments. I don't have to be the one the comments are aimed at to feel they are wrong.

It's not just insulting lifestyles. It is also implying that gays are rapists

in the back of the leicester programme there was a picture focusing on a bloke in the withdean crowd making obscene gestures with both hands, probably an error but it shows these things slip through

Come on, I think we are over reating. I agree it is not tasteful, or even particularly funny, but what about when Cardiff come to town. Lots of Sheep Shagging inuendos thrown about etc.

Look we all know towns have reputations for certain things. Being a town with a high cosmopolitan population, with a larger than average Gay community is going to bring it's share of jokes.

The Cardiff banter is distateful but it hasn't ever been printed in an official programmer

Agree completely.

Imagine the Albion programme for an Oldham game with the headline "Town full of racists empties for a trip to the seaside"?

Your Lordship's sense of humour is piceless. keep up the good work.

I saw your reply five minutes ago. I'm still chuckling to myself.

What a bunch of sad bastards you are. 'Who do we complain to?, etc, etc'.

This was written by one person and was a JOKE. I don't find it particularly funny, but you are over-reacting so much it's untrue.

This is the same board where not one person made a single complaint about Normandy_Seagull's incredibly offensive (and wholly untrue) 'guide to Oldham.' which read:

''Good Advice - avoid racist chanting as this might incite a riot with the natives. My grandparents live in Oldham and say there is always incidents up there! I have had my car radio nicked a few years back and wiper blades. You will notice that most shops and bussinesses have security grills, like America. Oldham averages about one murder a month. (It's good to know these things) You always have to pre-pay at the petrol stations. This however excludes the Tesco on chadderton way so fill up there. Crime is rife so ensure all your valubles are safe. Unemployment is high and the local yobs have little else to do apart from steal cars and vandalise the place. Some of the pubs can be extremely doggy. Use your common sense and gut instinct. For some reasons the locals think the southern accent and dialect is increddibly funny and often pretend to not understand what you are saying. If you ask what time somewhere shuts/opens expect to hear the word " while" instead of until. Apart from that enjoy the day and cheer on the Albion for me!!!!''

BHAExpresso appears to be an expert on the town of Oldham and Lancashire itself. Obviously having watched one match up here he's an expert.

The majority of people who come to Oldham comment on how friendly everyone is.

Some Brighton fans are muppets, some Oldham fans are muppets. Accept it.

As for the stuff about the programme being inaccurate, don't make me laugh. The info on the away team is always the same in every programme and is always wrong. I can guarantee that when I come to Brighton the programme (which I won't buy having already been bankrupted by the £21+ entrance fee) will be jam-packed full of crap.
