Headline on page 47 "Relegated Brighton are coming to Boundary Park today so it's backs to the wall. Enough about the fans, lets talk about the teams"

Terrace banter one thing - printing trash like this is OTT

This has been raised on the mailing list and has been mailed to Oldham for their comments.

I thought homophobic chanting or literature was now an offence?

Spot on Lord B. We should fight fire with fire. Our programme for Oldham should read: "The decent, hard-working members of the immigrant communities will have a pleasant day today as all the white trash are out of town."

It clearly was a joke - and thankfully I read it before I put money into the bucket for their survivial fund. I don't want them fined, but they need to think about their values!

Our honours list in the program ended with "Division Three Champions 2000/2001".

Erm, ok so we didn't win anything the year after then?

yeah, I noticed that, too.

*yawn* was my first thought.

Fifty years from now, there will be some programme collector who will read that and think "what a bunch of homophobic twats they were in Oldham in those days".

Leave 'em to their petty-mindedness. Remember, it's that petty-mindedness that gives us the opportunity to sing 'you're just a town full of racists' ;)

maybe a joke, but they wouldn't get away with telling people to "lock up your vehicles, Liverpool are coming to town," or making some wisecrack about another town's black or Jewish population, so why is it ok to comment in this way about Brighton?

That is blatantly promoting stereotypes amongst their flat cap wearing, whippet shagging, pigeon racing, slum dwelling, backward supporters.

Seriously though, it might be expected from a fanzine or a website, but I don't think it's acceptable in the offical match programme.

Jokes are supposed to be funny.

It's obviously supposed to be a gag but, just to echo some of the above comments, if we said anything racist or derisory about them we'd be strung up.

You'd expect it from their, and most other supporters, but not from the official mouthpiece.

One rule for one, one rule for another.

Reading fans gave us loads of 'does your boyfriend know you're here' etc at the Madejski season before last and we just blew kisses at them and patted our arses. They went absolutely mental and got thrown out!!

IMHO, Oldham fans are the most miserable in the entire league, stupid comments like that are fairly typical of the town that the rest of Lancashire depises.

It seems to be the best way to deal with the gay jibes is to play it up. I remember Coventry's "Where's your boyfriend gone?" song. Once we replied "He's over there, He's over there," they shut up pretty quick.

If I was an Oldham fan reading that I'd think it was quite funny. In fact it is quite funny. However, this sort of thing is terrace banter, not something that should be in a programme.

The inclusion of this gag is indicative of the now sad club Oldham have become...
