I keep looking at the firestation lamp hanging from the window sill. Can't get the angle on it at all!

This is York Place. Seems to a publicity thing for Curry’s . Undated but I’d guess 1950s… You would never get me up on one of those!

Today it is hard to pinpoint exactly but it is along this run of shops
From the Currys web site
Currys was founded by Henry Curry in 1884 as a bicycle-building business, before the company diversified into selling toys, radios and gramophones when it listed on the stock market in 1927.
Noting that the shop in the picture seems to be mainly wheels and baskets I'd say this was earlier than the 50's.

There's a big number 25 on the Currys sign in the old photo. So unless they've renumbered the street, which I guess is always possible, it's on the site of a fitness centre called New Fit Studio that occupied 24-25 York Place until it was put up for sale recently

1938. I remember it well.

[Just found it online  ].

My aunt went to the girl’s school behind there at that time, the original Margaret Hardy School. Two gates next to other in a gap between shops, the other for Fawcett.
