I often get Bobkin Jnr's bike out of the garage when he's running late for school (if you class school uniform as 'everyday clothes' then that answers your second questions; plus I see countless commuters and other cyclist who are lycra-free) and lean it up against the garden wall like that (not on the road – too busy and/or it would probs get hit or nicked).

Yeah, leaning against a wall I've seen, ditto chaining to railings. It's the old school 'parked on the road' that I don't remember seeing for ages. As you say nowadays the bike would probably be a) nicked, b) hit by traffic, c) removed as an obstruction

Interesting that the sailor/pirate figure outside the Rose & Crown is without the bow of the boat beneath his feet. Recently the boat which was there for many years has been removed and the same brackets seem to be in evidence.

Found it. I was interested in what is up the hill on the south side of the main road. The top picture posted by @Perfidious Albion..
Here is another pic looking up the Hill towards the west. See the bit I have ringed - that is now grass by the cliffs

Thanks for posting. These photos were taken before the seawall and Undercliff were built. Current best estimates of coastal erosion are that with no active intervention in maintaining the beach and sea wall, the cliffs would erode 20m by 2055 and 40m by 2105, taking the A259 with it.

Look at that bike on the left, parked against the kerb. We all used to do that in the old days - push the pedal down against the top of the kerb for support and turn the front wheel in slightly for balance. I can't remember the last time I saw a bike parked up like that. Also the woman on the right holding a bike; does anyone now ever wear normal, everyday clothes for cycling?

Me - I still wear normal clothes. But then I have an e-bike, so I can cycle to work in normal clothes - hop off and walk straight in a sit down. No changing/showers or any of that nonsense.

I did also actually put my pedal down on the kerb to park my bike recently - as I always used to. But I found that as the e-bike is so much heavier, it really didn't want to just stand there, not even with the wheel turned in slightly.

A friend of mine assured me she'd served Ian Anderson at the then Colston Hall in Bristol a few years ago.
My faith in this claim was somewhat undermined by her initially claiming that the same man was Robert Fripp.

I was pleasantly surprised to see some of JT are still with us. Despite his persona at the time and that era, Anderson wasn’t into narcotics he says.

I've always been of the understanding that Ian Anderson was comfortably the least "exciting" (I.e. the least into drugs etc.) of all the 60/70s rock stars.

Never quite understood why some people (not accusing you of this) assume that somebody with a big on stage performing personality must be on drugs, frankly. It's like assuming that somebody playing Macbeth must be into stabbing people.

Reading a stack of musicians autobios revealed all, plus some BBC4 docs. Perhaps naively, I didn’t realise some of my idols were pretty ‘ill’ during their peak through Class A drugs and/or booze. Blondie, Soft Cell, Billy Idol, Hookie and Sumner, Andy Rourke, Adam Clayton, Marianne Faithful. I never hold it against them, the polar opposite, I want them be healthy and to live forever.
