The Tamplins Ales advert looks like it might be giving directions to the Maltsters Arms. There was a Maltsters Arms in Montague Place which closed in 1960 according to the Closed Pubs website.

Brighton, a town with a pub on every corner😂. Hanover Arms isn’t the Greys?

How many pubs did Southover Street have back in the day!!! Brighton was famed for having a pub on every corner, but there must have been 30+ in Hanover🤷😂
Indeed. Look at an old map and the number of pubs is incredible.

A slight twist on old places but I thought interesting- Why our old football ground got its name, the Goldstone - the “Godstone” - dug up and moved in 1906 to Hove Park

I thought this was where the Albion was formed in a meeting room upstairs.

A bit of Brighton and Hove Albion history was made in the Old Vic back in 1901... Many a good plan has been made over a few pints in that pub over the years

In November 1897 the first professional football club in Brighton and Hove, Brighton United, was formed. It competed in the Southern League at the County Cricket Ground in Hove from 1898, but the gates were poor and the club folded in 1900 before the end of its second season. Some enthusiasts then formed Brighton & Hove Rangers, an amateur club who played to the north of Brighton at Withdean. Rangers managed some excellent results against good opposition and secured a place in the Southern League for 1901-02, but then they too were forced to disband.

The indomitable John Jackson, the former manager of United, organised a meeting on 24 June 1901 at the Seven Stars Hotel, (OLD VIC) in Ship Street at which a new, third club was formed. Brighton & Hove United took up the now-defunct Rangers’ place in the Southern League. Because of complaints by Hove F.C., serious local competition, the name was soon changed to Brighton & Hove Albion before a ball was kicked.

So there you go! “

(The Old Vic was one of my favourite drinking haunts in the 80s - great place to see live bands )

The two women are trying to see if their hubbies have sneaked out for a cheeky 4 pints.
Nah, they’re just reading the opening times on the door to see when they can pop in for a sneaky port and lemon.
