Getting to that time where I'll be investing a new pair of running shoes soon. My God, these sports company's are really making hay out of the running boom. Just seen these new Asics Metaride's online for 224.00 quid!

I'd love to be able to buy the trainers that suit me best, (Nike Pegasus) but even those are changed all the time, with a "nth" generation, which adds more on the price.

I generally browse all the sites looking for any that suit me in a sale, as I'm really loathe to go over 100.00 quid for a pair. Yes I know you get what you pay for, but these company's are really taking the p**s.

I need a neutral cushioned shoe, as had several calf injuries down the years. Going well right now, (touches wood) & enjoying a long injury free period.

Neutral cushioned gives you loads of options........if you like a particular make/model, no need to get the latest version either, get the next to latest which will usually be discounted. If you find what you’re looking for, get a couple of pairs and rotate them - they’ll last a lot longer if you let them ‘recover’ between runs too.

Sportsshoes.com are usually a good option - their returns policy is very good too if you don’t like what they send

Can shoes recover? If so, then I never knew that. What’s their usual recovery cycle? Or do they need a sports massage and foam roll?

LOL - wind. Drove to Southend for the Pier Marathon to be greeted by 50mph winds and two giant wheelie-bins careering down the road. Despite assurances from the council last night that it could go ahead, it was obvious it couldn’t. STE then tried to organise a run on the prom, but were told they couldn’t have permission......so I drove home.

Wind was so bad the QE Bridge was closed, so there was 10-15 miles of stationary traffic backed up on the M25. I decided to get home via London/Blackwall Tunnel instead.

Happy days [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]

That's crap, sorry to hear that mate. Absolutely shite way to spend Sunday.

Absolutely ridiculous 19.5 miles this morning- up the Adur and then west into the wind up to Chanctonbury before mercifully having the wind behind us as we turned south towards Cissbury and back along the Downland Devil courseto the river. Possibly the hardest run I’ve ever done - the infamous 2017 Mince Pie was mentioned more than once big nuts - I thought this was worse!
Still, it’s done and will be a good one to think about when on the starting line at a marathon.
Oh yeah and then we got to the cafe only to be told the kitchen was shut - I’d been so looking forward to that bacon sandwich!!!
knocky1 next time you update the table please amend my time from yesterday to 21:42. And if the NSC team will have me I’m up for the quiz on Wednesday!

I'll do the table tomorrow. Apologies.
The quiz uptake is going very well. It is 4 to a team so we have dazzer6666 big nuts Ninja Elephant and Guinness Boy as the team.
So we need a few more volunteers for Wednesday the 20th March, or the top team divides by friends/family being invited, Mr Blobby may need someone in his team, or ben Elton's brother may join us and need a team member or you bring a team along. Quite a few possibilities, we'll see what happens........

Simgull my training mate is also running for Martletts and won't know anyone so if he is up for the quiz I can try and form a team with him and some Portslade locals. Gives knocky1 more people in the pub. I don't know if he'll say yes or no yet though and his Mrs might need to be consulted as they have kids. I will drop him a message and chase up my other lot and see if we can make a team allowing you to take my spot. Watch this space.....

Thanks for the reply mate, I do generally have a look around for the discounted "previous version". I have used sportsshoes.com previously too. (Even, say it quietly, sportsdirect.com). It was just a general rant about the prices getting really ridiculous these days. Runners Need is another site that have a sale of older versions of particular brands too.

I hear you. I need neutral cushioned. I got Saucony Guide 9s not that long back and they were the best shoe I ever used.. They have now gone through Guide ISO and Guide ISO Mark 2 and I've had to get those. Colour, branding and some tiny adjutments apart they are no different, except you cannot get 9s anywhere now and the ISO Mark 2 have a totally different lacing set up that needed me to change the way I applied the runners' loop I'd just got used to.

I appreciate that life cannot stand still or we'd all be running in Dunlop plimsoles but the speed that it moves at is unnecessary and expensive. The worst thing is you actually risk injury for something more expensive when a shoe is retired.

Don’t you top runners wear Dunlop’s Green Flash anymore?

What a brilliant day Saturday. It all started for me by going up early to do the South Norwood Park Run. It is a gem in a really really deprived part of Croydon, a PR that I would definitely recommend, but perhaps when it hasnt been raining quite so much. Mostly off road on footpaths but large puddles and quite a few slippery corners made it interesting. I think I set a PR first by being booed at the pre run briefing. They asked if any park run tourists about, so after one from Tilgate, then one from Derby I put up my hand and said Brighton! This was roundly greeted by good natured booing......I got good natured banter most of the way round and I heared a couple of people saying we cant get beaten by the Brighton fan! They were a great friendly bunch, they normally get about a 100 runners but it was 300 on Saturday as 4 local churches doing a head to head challenge and also 2 Croydon running clubs doing the same. It made for a crowded start and it took a while to get moving properly. I am tempted to go back next weekend.

A very dissapointing Barcelona Marathon for me yesterday.
4.37 struggled from mile 11, and was run/walking from mile 14.

Oh well.

New running belt with 2 300ml bottles, clif shot blocks, tailwind and SIS electrolyte tables ordered to arrive in time for Saturdays planned 21 miles (eek).

Hoping for a bonk free run. Gonna set off much slower as well.

Hi guys, I managed to come away with a new half marathon PB of 1:17:00 at the Big Half in London yesterday. Going sub 80 for the first time was nice! It's a great race through the streets of London, well organised and a very competitive field. It was super windy which made some brutal headwind sections tough but there were some moments where we were "wind assisted". After a full week of marathon training I wasn't planning to "race" this one but once I got to the start line I got caught up with the excitement and thought I'd give it a go. I tried to stay relaxed and really pleased to hold around av. 5:50 min/mile'ing feeling surprisingly comfortable through to the end. All the hard work seems to paying off. Excited for Manchester in 4 weeks. :O

This clip of Big Ben trying to navigate the wind sums up the conditions well! - https://twitter.com/StMirrenDaft/status/1104722278015819776/video/1

I was looking at your run on Strava last night, it was absolutely fantastic :clap2:

I'm confident you're going to go well under 3 hours in Manchester. Just for reference, a guy in my running group also did a 1:17 HM last year and went on to do a 2:46 marathon 3 weeks later.

Many thanks Badger ! I don't think I'm in sub 2:50 range but Sunday was a big confidence booster that the hard work over the last 15 weeks is paying off. As we all know though the marathon is a whole different scary beast and a lot depends on what it decides to throw at you on the day. Just hoping the remaining few weeks are very uneventful so that I make it to race day feeling good to be able to give in my best.

**** you're even able to do the non running part sensibly and ignore the mindgames. What hope is there for us mere mortals?

Good luck with the sub 2:50:00
