Another glorious swim for me this morning but I'm not very quick - 12 lengths in 11:10 and then another 12 in 11:29. My technique isn't overly strong, I'm not fond of putting my head under water. No childhood traumas or anything like that, I just can't do it. At some point I'm going to take swimming lessons to improve my technique but for the time being I'm just going to keep plodding away in the slow lane. The fast lanes had 6/7 people each, but the slow lanes had 2/3 each which is ideal. 30 lengths in total, as per my current plan which builds up week by week.

50something miles in the tank this week so far, with 2 x 15 minutes hard and fast tomorrow (might be my first non-parkrunning saturday of 2019) and then 15 miles on sunday with a 7:45 per mile target. Bring the pace!

I'm ashamed to say my swimming has tailed off MASSIVELY since the Ironman. Running is just such an easy option, but I actually really enjoyed it when I was in the pool. Gotta put that right soon.

Quite incredible that a 70 year old can run at 6:39 pace for a marathon.

Is this an old school friend of yours? knocky1

That is an incredible effort.

It did make me a little bit sad he broke Ed Whitlock's record though. Ed is a Toronto legend. I saw him at a few of my races, and he took part in hundreds of them until he sadly passed away in 2017. I think he still holds the 75-79, 80-84, and 85-89 records though. He ran a 3:15:54 at the age of 80 and still managed to go sub 4 hours at 85.

Yeah, I agree, Bad enough when people discuss triathlons on here :)

Hove Park is doing its annual course reversal tomorrow if anyone fancies a sort of different parkrun.

There's a couple of guys in my work running group who are very good triathletes and I have absolutely no idea what they're talking about when they get into technical bike spec or watts talk?

Put on the yellow race slippers today for the Arena Age Grade race on the Prom. Very enjoyable run and put in a good performance regardless of age grade. Went for it from the start into the wind and at 1 mile nervously overtook Caroline Wood. Thought I may be overdoing it but managed to stay in front and was not overtaken by anyone else, finished 25th, got a SB around 20:56 and will overtake soistes in the NSC AG battle.

All in all a bloody good day at the races. Just the filip I needed for Hasting's Half next Sunday

Another double saturday session for me this week - I ran 15 minutes in 6:43 average pace as a warm up to the Hove Park parkrun, run in reverse. I ran just short of 20 minutes with a strong finishing half mile or so. It was parkrun #99 for me in total so I'll need to think about where number 100 will be next weekend. I might make it Bevendean, to try and get a win on the 100th but also for the breakfast afterwards. I'm not 100% sure though.

Also, after discussions with Simgull after the run this morning, I've entered Hastings Half for next sunday. I'll be intending to start from the back having already run 4 miles in 7:30 per and I'll aim to run that pace for the Half as well. It doesn't start until 10:30am which is far more understanding of my particular needs as a runner!

Hove Prom results out by about 30 seconds. All too fast, so I won't be accepting those until amended.

Glad you're coming to the Hastings beano Ninja Elephant. Fish and Chips by the Pier.

Not if you quickly edit my quote in your post like I have to the original.

Edit. Damn! I see I made the same mistake a few posts earlier. Used to teach English as a job................poor students.

Excellent run, good stuff. Also thank you very much for your kind donation

I think we are back to original plan for the quiz, my training mate has not sorted out child care yet. He may come as a last minute spare "extra" but for now count him out.

Trying a split session this weekend, 10 miles today with 7 at target MP and then a 13 mile plod planned for tomorrow (probably with some hillage, everything has been flat, flat, flat and windy so far). We'll see how that works before a 20 miler next week and then taper.

Much more positive long run this week.

Set off at a slower rate, had 2 bottles of water with SIS Hydro tablet in one and a Tailwind in the other, shot blocks and jelly sport beans. Not sure if it was the pacing or the fuel which made the difference but felt so much better the whole way around. Did just over 20 miles in the end, so feeling much more confident about attempting Brighton marathon again.

Great news....it won’t be one or the other, it’ll be both......[emoji106]

I'm just about to head out for a friend's birthday. My 5k time will be largely dictated by how many beers I consume.

I make no secret of the fact I've got mediocre gear and no idea about all that business. But points taken, I'll kick the bike and swim chat to the kerb [emoji23]

Back to running and Moyleman awaits. Not got a clue how it's going to go, but not having knocky1 chasing me up Cabourn will be a bonus! Five hours would be nice.

Nice one for getting into Hastings, Ninja Elephant - fantastic race and easily my favourite half. Maybe next year for me...

You deserve as many beers as you can drink!
