Blimey.....starting the year with a heap of catching up to do already ! Well done chaps [emoji122][emoji122][emoji122]

A blistering start to 2019 for many, bodes well for a successful year ahead running wise.

Desperate to get out there to clock up the first miles of 2019 but know deep down it’s the wrong thing to do.

Bloody Worthing!
OK, I may have spoken too soon. As others have noted, it was an amazing turn out for the NYD double today, with nearly 800 on the prom and similar numbers I'd guess at Hove Park.
Despite hangover and a chest cold, I was inspired by Simgull who was just in front of me most of the way round the Prom course, and set a punishing pace.

As a result, I've started the New Year with a PB (by the massive margin of two seconds), and an official time of 21:51 (AGR 75.36%). Good to meet knocky1 too, for the first time, and I look forward to seeing the new table, and watching myself drift inexorably down it during the year.

Hove Park time was a lot slower (not seen the official results yet, but my watch showed 23:26).

Well done, young 'un.

Great start to the year guys. I wasn't expecting to see quite so many times already in the table!

I'll be going out with with my running group this afternoon, probably a steady 10k.

Thanks knocky1 - I'm loving the look of the table.... even though I know it's a bit like Brighton being near the top of the table at the beginning of the season, before any matches have been played.....

[PS: when you next edit the table, my 10k best time is 46:14, from the Brooks 10k in 2018 - it seems to have reverted to a previous PB]

21:52 and 22:47 for me this morning - felt really tired for the latter run at Hove Park - must have been that effort of towing soistes to a pb on the Prom - Congratulations and thanks for not mentioning you overtook me knocky1-style with 200 yards to go!

Amazing numbers this morning (or is it - bearing in mind c1500 runners at B&H parkrun each week) - not sure if Hove Park can really cope with such numbers safely given the narrow paths- at least one accident this morning. Guess we’ll be back down to normal numbers next week although January is usually when course record numbers are recorded.

Haha yes, sorry! I wouldn't normally do that sort of thing, but I'd assumed, because we were a little way behind the 22 min pacer, that I was going to be over 22m, but then on the last stretch he suddenly stopped running and started jogging on the spot, so I realised that he was ahead of pace and looked at my watch and saw that if I legged it I might just be on for a PB.

Hey, I seem to recall you doing the old sprint finish to get past me on the line at Worthing in the summer! I'd love to return the compliment but I don't think I'd get near enough to you right now for a tow-job.
Bloody hell it's hard to get going this time of year. Been out for a few runs and it's been like running through wet cement.

Haha! A true case of pot and kettle!

I’m meant to be pacing st Hove Prom on Saturday - forecast says 1 degree. We’ll see if 700 turn up again!

1 degree sounds like great running weather to me, as long as it's not raining

It was -7 degrees and snowing for my run last night. There's something quite magical about running along a quiet residential street when it's dark and snowing. Especially with lots of Christmas lights still out.

Finding it hard to find my mojo and get training so will rest for Hove Prom. Need to get nearer 21". The good start to the 2019 table has put me under immediate pressure.....so ..in the style of the Arsenal, Everton fans I have to get out the hashtag

Slight, cooling northerly should give perfect conditions!

Still hobbling. Doc thinks mild gout most likely. Too much red meat in the diet and red wine in the glass over Xmas, Never had it before and need a blood test at the end of the month to confirm. However, am hobbling less and planning on restarting the machine next week. I will think of you all when I'm wrapped up warm in bed on Saturday with a nice mug of coffee

Good luck with it going quickly. At least you got the miles in the week before.

Hi guys, I've come over to the dark side! Not looked at this thread before so bear with me.

I've NEVER been a runner. Hated it at school, but have recently realised that this was probably because I never did enough of it to get into it. However, with the weather getting colder, I thought it would be a good idea to do some running to keep my fitness up. It'll never replace cycling but cycling in cold / wet / windy weather is a bitch. And I do like the fact I can just go and do it without having to worry about tyres, punctures, etc.

I bought some decent-ish running shoes last week and have been out a few times in the last couple of weeks, along with some hiking and a 25 mile ride at the weekend. Have already managed a couple of 4ks this week and hoping to go for the 5k this evening, after a rest day yesterday. Really enjoying it and not finding it particularly hard, which surprises me.

I had quite a bit of knee pain in the first 4k and had to walk a bit but the second time there was next to none.

Any tips for a complete novice?

How does the table above work knocky1?

Is there a Strava group?

Anyone on here do a lot of running AND cycling?
