Bloody Worthing!

Looks like some took it well; others were furious. If it was a PB then I think I'd be in the latter camp.

I once did a 10K organised (or at least based at) Lancing lah di dah College. After running for about 40 minutes and being not very near the finish a number of runners began to wonder if there was something wrong. This was confirmed as we approached the finish - not only were we minutes slower than anticipated and obviously running 10k+ (this was before the Garmin!) but we were also passing (I'll put this diplomatically) older, larger and slower runners who somehow had 'overtaken' us. The really funny thing (it wasn't so funny at the time) was that there were gold medals for the first 50, silver for the next tranche and then bronze for everyone else. So as we crossed the line it was by then obvious that the early leaders of the field had been wrongly marshalled and run about 13k, so the guys handing out the medals had to make a judgment call (presumably on body shape!) on who got handed which medals. This created even more confusion and there were some livid runners at the finish hunting for their sense of humour and gold medals.

The event was never run again.

Runners can get very uptight about stuff like this - biggest one recently was the Manchester Marathon - 24,000 people had times invalidated after they found it had been mismeasured for 3 years. Bit gutting if you'd busted your wotsits for a PB

First day off from my schedule since it started, hamstring was feeling tight from Sunday so opted for another days rest with some stretching and a light swim.

Ah okay, sounds like this happens from time to time.

Only time my lard ar$e friend ran a Half he had to run 1/3 mile further. Brighton Half 2012.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-17109558

I did the Brighton half in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016! I missed the long run year :) . Only run that I have done that is a bit dubious in distance is the Linfield 10k, done it twice and made it nearly 11k the first time and just over10.5k last year. Guess as lots of it cross country its harder to measure exact distances, ie in one field had to go round the cows!!!

Consoled myself as I'm sat here with my swollen ankle up on the sofa by entering Beachy Head. First time so really looking forward to it!

Just a reminder if you are thinking of entering, price goes up by £4 tomorrow.

Dazzer's seen this on FB but my last 2 runs have been nightmares. Tried some tempo intervals on Weds lunchtime and couldn't do the tempo bit. Pain in both knees and right calf as soon as I accelerated. MUCH worse this morning. Tasked with 90 mins easy I felt my left knee and right calf as soon as i took off. Actually ran in a small block around my house in case it eased but after a mile at 11.33 in tremendous pain I gave up and went home.

Annoyingly it's definitely running that's doing it. Sitting here in no pain at all at the moment. Was able to watch / coach boys football this morning, help with passing drills and stretching but as soon as I jog or sprint the pain comes back.

Need to get to Jesus to see if this is the old reactive tendon injury in the knee but the calf is more worrying. Pain all the way down the front shin bone as soon as I run. Hoping that's not what i think it is.

90% sure I'll defer Brighton, run for fun when 100% and look at something in the autumn.

Mate, that sounds like rotten luck – I'll miss crossing paths with you at stupid o'clock on a Sunday morning, but certainly the best thing to do. I'll be back at Brighton next year, so we can go and nail that 3:45 then. In the meantime, if you're looking for something later in the year I couldn't recommend Beachy Head highly enough. SUCH a great day out and trails to soften the blow on the knees and legs. But worry about that a bit closer to the time and concentrate on getting better. Hope Jesus sorts you out.

Given all of the injuries around here, I feel a bit bad posting this, but whatever was up with knee has gone away, and I finished Runuary on a total of 142 miles. A little run at Bootcamp, followed by 4.1 miles afterwards concluded the month for me.

Looking forward to a day off (or maybe even two) now...

Grim out there tonight. Was working from home today but way too busy to get out in daylight, by the time I could escape the confernence calls and VCs it was dark and pissing down. Splashed around town doing a 'hill fartlek' session of 90 mins (basically run relatively easy, until you reach any kind of upslope, which you then run hard, however long it is). Last run of the month, pretty pleased to have hit 189 miles in January with the dodgy foot - does seem to be improving now even though I think I am running right on the limit of ****ing it up.

Good prep run for Worthing in a couple of weeks. 13.1 miles over with close to 500 feet of climb up through Westdene along to Portslade and back along the coast. Completed in 1:36:47 at 7:23 pace. Hamstrings still very tight but fitness and stamina is much better.

I can't see myself matching last years times and I'd be pleased with anything around the 7 minute mark average pace.

Can't believe the number of injuries on here, Jesus must be a very busy boy at the moment.

Hopefully my addition to the NSC crocked list was a bit premature. After just one night of icing/heating my groin, it felt a lot better. Decided to go for my usual Wednesday morning run today in the pouring rain and managed just over 5 miles without so much as twinge. Fingers crossed it was some kind of inflammation and wasn't actually a pulled muscle.

Well wasn't it damp out there last night, ran staright through about a million puddles. Lovely burn up Eldred Avenue and round the top of Westdene at the end.

Right back into it I am.

You seem to be almost back to your best. I don't think I'll be anywhere near that kind of pace for Worthing as I've been concentrating on stamina runs but will be interesting to see what I can push myself to, looking forward to it.

Ran 4 miles with a little speed work today. Strangely exhausted by the end after a 2 day break doesn't make any sense.

I've learned to hate 10k races, but I might make an exception for this one. I reckon 5k is my limit for 'speed', but I actually have fond memories of doing this one a few years ago.

I reckon you are the man for the current 5k time x 2 + 1 minute. I struggle and go nearer to 5kX2+ 2 minutes.

Have to let you down for the Knocky Moyleman Pop Up Refreshment Stand. Fed up sitting around in this weather so booked the ferry to Santander to drive down to Southern Portugal for March. Half the 4 games on Sky luckily.

On current form that would see me pushing 44 mins, which is possible doable. Might be a bit different by the summer and I might even do a bit of specific training for it. I had six minutes of diagonals this morning, so it's a start!

No worries about Moyleman, I think by close to the finish line I'll be wishing I was in Portugal too!
