Exactly my experience of every Worthing 10k I’ve ever run, and I’ve run a few. This year there’s more chance of me entering Meghan Markle than this race.

One of Jan’s other runners was in this. He was timed out after 3 days. There is a video of him emerging from a dry tent to walk with poles in to the most brutal looking rainstorm I’ve seen in a while. Absolutely mental.

Probably Philippe........lovely bloke.
If anyone is interested, at the somewhat loonier end of the running scale, the annual Montane Spine Race is reaching it's conclusion (well, for the leader anyway - those at the back have about 3 days running left)............basically the full length of the Pennines (270ish miles and 11,000m of elevation), South to North (not sure what sadist decided January would be a good time to hold the event) . At one point today the two leaders were less than a mile apart (after 80 hours running), but Jayson Cavill in second dropped out injured with around a marathon left to go, leaving John Kelly out on his own (30 miles ahead of the guy in 3rd). Conditions have been absolutely brutal, with Storm Brendon not helping much. There's a daily video update from the course..............
One of the guys at Sussex Trail Events actually finished this race last year.

To allow you all to play I’ve listed the Badges. Not sure how few I have yet but will work on it whilst watching Pope and Stokes

Just downloaded the 5k parkrunner App. It’s full of useful and useless stats which should keep any parkrun geek happy for hours!
This is the future - no more discussion about SBs, PBs and AGs or even alphabets- who is closest to completing the Pirate Challenge? Have you managed the Groundhog day challenge? Can knocky1 set up a table to capture all of this data?
My overall completion is 67% and I can proudly say I have completed stopwatch bingo! My bet is @GNT is leading!!!

Parkrun Virgin - I have my barcode, in truth I've had that for over a year, but never turned up. What's your experience of Parkruns?

Friendly, inclusive and good fun. Literally all abilities. You'll have a ball (and quickly become addicted).

^^^^^what he says. Just do it.......you won't regret it.
When you turn up there will be an announcement about 10 mins before the start calling any new parkrunners for a very short briefing (every parkrun will have newbies every week - at Hove Prom for example it's often double figures). You'll be made to feel very welcome, it's not intimidating in the slightest. The RD will then give out a few pre-race messages immediately before the start (announcing visitors, anyone doing a milestone run, whether there are any pacers to follow if you wish etc) and then you're off. At the finish funnel you'll be given another barcode (finishing token), take this and your own barcode to one the of the volunteers who'll be lurking after the finish line, they'll scan both and within a couple of hours you'll get a text/email with your result.
My fear as a significantly overweight 58 year old is my run time, at the moment a 5k takes me 44 mins .... yes, I know, but hey I'm doing something about it!
Thank you, that's reassuring. Locally, Arundel, I think there's Littlehampton and Horsham.
