Thanks. I’ll drop them a line and see what they say.

And yes it’s going well at the moment; I’ve never ran this fast before. Tomorrow I hit the 20 mile mark with this plan; first 16 miles is sub 7 and then I ease off and run at whatever I feel comfortable with. Fingers crossed.

I have a week off the training plan next week due to a music festival; I do feel like I need a rest.

We'll put this in the table at a future date if you do not better it. I think you may have taken my Age Grade silver place. Week off sounds a great idea and should make you stronger. ******!

Thanks. Very kind. It was frustrating but looking on the positive side matching or bettering gives me something to aim for.

Ended up cycling out to Peacehaven with [MENTION=13055]Ninja Elephant[/MENTION]. What a great course, really enjoyed it. Incredibly hot but really pleased with my run and feel the 19:08 there is probably worth 18:40ish on the flat.

Just Bevendean to do to complete the Brighton & Hove set.

Even if he had to wear arm bands he’d more than hold his own!

Looks like part 5 of this ongoing battle will be the Phoenix. We have both said we’re committed. We will watch the last half hour in the Brunswick

Seriously? You'll get the whole second half plus what's needed. I may pop along to meet the committed two in the pub.

[MENTION=18183]big nuts[/MENTION] deserved the victory today, he was a menace from the off and my usual tactic of trying to leave him behind and then hold on wasn't the one today. I wasn't in prime condition to race the big fella but I would have taken the win had it come, so I graciously accept the defeat! 2nd and 3rd in the standings respectively in the sweltering heat!

Bring on the Phoenix!

I actually averaged 17mph on the cycle to the event, 11.5miles. I paid the price this afternoon, I attacked Wilson Avenue en route to Bevendean afterwards and then I had a section of Southover Street and Sussex Road (the hardest road to cycle, in my opinion!). 29.5 miles on the bike in total today. My swimming has fallen away a little bit but I do intend to get back into the swing of things at some point soon. I will tackle a triathlon, but not until 2019 at the earliest because I need to get my swimming up to standard.

Was a good battle. Ninja went off quickly and had a 20 metre lead for the first 1.5 miles. It was parity between 1.5-2.5 as I sat on the shoulder. Went past with around half a mile to go and dared not look back. Had one glance into the home straight but I must have pulled ahead.

Sets up Wednesday nicely, as always won’t be too much in it.

It was too much in the circumstances. The cycle, the heat, the hill and the 4 further KMs to tackle all worked against me.

I mentioned I'd done a 2 hour cardio session the day before - I'd done 30 minutes on a Wattbike, 45 minutes on an eliptical machine and then an hour on the treadmill (steady pace with a couple of sprints but no more). I wasn't planning on attacking a parkrun the following morning because I've not been in a position to fully train but I felt like I wanted to give it my all and see where I was.

On tuesday I am going to sit down with my friend Rob to come up with a marathon training plan for Bournemouth. I'm not happy with my marathon PB so I'm going to be really thinking about what I've done wrong previously and how to overcome it and post a time I'm proud of. I think I'm proud of my other PBs, but not the marathon.

Not exactly running I know, but successfully completed the Three Peaks Challenge this weekend. Don’t get near to the fabled 24 hours, just under 29, but I don’t think you can achieve this unless you have a support crew to minimise breaks between the peaks or you are a full on Fell Runner.
It was pretty tough - comparable to a hard marathon in terms of physical effort I’d say and I’m pretty shattered now but mainly through lack of sleep.
What we did get was incredible luck with the weather - sunny, not too hot as we were walking early morning or evenings and utterly amazing clear views at the tops of Ben Nevis, Scan Fell Pike and Snowdon.

Got to say I think I am a doubt for Phoenix now, don’t suppose there’ll be any thing decent on the telly on Wednesday instrad.

I use the marathon training plans from Runners World (.co.uk, not the US website). I can’t recommend them enough. They have lots of options for time and number of days per week you can commit etc; something for everyone. As you’re looking at a PB around the 3 hour mark, I presume, you’ll be looking at 6 or 7 day plans though. They have been around for years and are tried and tested when it comes to the balance of speed, endurance, recovery and rest. The recovery and rest elements should not be overlooked; I’ve been a bit stupid in the past and when I have missed a day I have doubled up instead of just forgetting about it and moving on; the plans actually recommend dropping a week day endurance run but keeping speed work if you can’t fit all the weeks training in. Every time I’ve stuck to the plan, and met all the daily targets etc, I’ve come in on time or quicker. The marathon plans are 16 weeks and you need to ensure you have the specified entry level of fitness before starting.
