My preparation for the Brighton marathon has been fairly minimal so today I decided to do a long run and if I felt OK then I would do the BM. Happy to say I did 20 miles (Lewes to Hove and back with a quick pint at the swan to rehydrate) and don’t feel too bad. Looking forward to April 15th now!

Well done. I admire your rehydration choice.

Good to see [MENTION=3975]ben[/MENTION] Elton's Brother at Parkrun full of the joys of marathon training and setting an SB for 5K. Anyone know where the table is?

Found it down the side of the sofa!

Worthing PR today and edging towards my times of last year. Made a creditable 22:06, still a minute off my PB but worthy of going in the table.

Feel great this morning. Have shelved the LSD. Feels like a holiday. Rather than plod and struggle have decided to do back to backs Tuesday and Wednesday with another longish run Easter Sunday.
Benefits will be a few more days rest, a psychological big mileage accumulation on Strava next week and getting the potatoes in the ground at the allotment.

Interesting fact for number crunchers. I finished 113th in Parkrun yesterday. The same position as in The Moyleman. Not sure if I'll be able to keep this logarithm running for Brighton Marathon...........

16 miles along the River Wharfe this morning past Bolton Abbey - glorious cold frosty Yorkshire morning with blue skies above.

Traffic was bad on way back though

Did a new PB at the Launceston Park Run yesterday (21.08) to celebrate turning 43. Never been a distance runner - always built for speed - but getting into running longer. Will do the Launceston 10 later in the year - is a fast flat course, so maybe looking at beating my only other 10k time from 10 years ago (43min). Onwards & Upwards!

And you raise an interesting point about long run recovery. I always treat myself to a Burger King or McD chocolate milkshake post long runs. During the week it’s always a gob full of salted peanuts. What do others do?

I blitz a banana, an egg, maple syrup and ice in a pint of milk. Followed by a cup of coffee and ideally a bacon sandwich.

22 miles from Shoreham to Rottingdean and back today. Average pace of 7:56 with some miles at 7:30.

Looking forward to the taper and then my Brighton Marathon comeback!

Did my 12 mile course again this morning looking to run it a tad faster and I did. By 15 seconds. At this rate I’ll have another sub 4 crack in 2025.

Poached egg on toast with a strong coffee to recover.

Was away in London this weekend so just planned to do a long run of training on Sunday morning in prep for BM. Stumbled across the London landmark half marathon , so thought why not, be rude not to[emoji41] very well run I must say, great scenic route obviously. So the long and short of it is got a medal for hi jacking the run and did another 6 miles after.

Weekend off running, so went out this morning and ran 10 miles in 1:26. Wasn't meant to be fast anyway, with one eye on pacing myself on BM 2018 day, just steady. Lovely morning for it with not much wind and the temperature a few degrees higher than it had been.

Quick question for the Brighton-based peeps – what are all the lights just east of the i360? It looks like another wheel or something – red lights almost in a circle and look almost as high as the i360? I attempted a picture with my camera as I was running along the path from Lancing, but it just wasn't going to work (even from Shoreham Fort).

Just looking at the train times for the Brighton 10k / Marathon, it looks like the trains are ****ed. Anyone know if this is likely to be resolved in time, or should I start making alternative travel plans now?

Could you enter on the day, then? Looked pretty good from the pictures I've seen of it – bit pricey though, from memory...

I was going to bring up the subject of running nutrition. I've read a few things saying chocolate milk is a good recovery drink and obviously it helps that it tastes great! I always make myself a large glass of chocolate milk when I get in from a long run. I've also fallen in to the habit of then going to the local coffee shop and having either bacon & eggs breakfast, or their amazing blueberry French toast.

What do people recommend in terms of diet during training? I haven't really adjusted what I eat, other than having more of it because I'm constantly hungry. One thing I have done is cut out high fibre wholewheat bread. Let's just say my bowels didn't thank me for eating it before a long run :lolol:
