Outstanding run Artie Fufkin !

I was there and took a few minutes off my PB, finishing in 3:39:23 . I was aiming for 3:30, but was under trained and had a rather slow and painful last 12km. That said, it was an amazing day. The organization on the day and size of the crowds were unreal. As someone who doesn't live locally, it was a bit of a faff having drop off the kit bag and collect bib on Saturday, it took me best part of an hour and a half, and heard others were there over 2 hours.

Well done for your PB! With the exception of the likes of Artie, I think most will have slowed in the last 12K.

Congratulations Artie Fufkin and Bad Ash . It's great to finally be reading these marathon reports again. I was looking at your Strava post Artie and it looked like you managed the race really well even if you got a stitch. I do wonder if I could ever get in the kind of shape to do a sub 2:45 marathon. Holding on to that pace seems like such a challenge.

There's a South African guy who comes to my running group who also did London and came home in 2:29. He's an absolutely ridiculous runner, I'm not even sure he's human.

In other news, I've put my name into the lottery for the Berlin Marathon next year.

Thanks very much Badger!

With your sub 3 already in the bag you're not far off and I think you have every chance to go under 2:45. I won't bore you with training advice but I'd say Berlin next year would be an ideal goal race. Fingers crossed for a place! Gradually building up over a 12 month cycle is a really nice amount of time. Time is the key.

Kudos to your running group friend! That is rapid!

What's the next goal?

Yes, I think keeping the running going throughout the year is important. Also, I did my sub 3 in ordinary shoes. Now I've got some cheating carbon/foam shoes, so that should give me at least 4% already :D

To keep improving as best and for as long as I can really. And to stay healthy. Nothing fixed for next year but perhaps a spring marathon and then back to London next October. Maybe an England Age Group Masters selection would be fun.

Oh and I want to "go back to school" and get my England Athletics Coaching qualifications. I'd love to coach one day.

I cringe at my marathon time, given what I can do 5k in, I should be able to do much better

It won't help with a marathon at all, but starting next week I'm going to start going to track sessions with the local athletics club. Will try and focus on HM and below over the next year. If I can get my HM time more in line with my 5k time (based upon VDOT https://runsmartproject.com/calculator/) then I might consider another marathon in the future.

I missed telling you knocky1 about my 38:51 chip time in last month's 5M Weston Prom Run. I think that's AG 75.95%.

Great stuff! Have fun on the track. Working on the short stuff does help with the longer stuff as well. I'd just suggest mixing it up and not neglecting comfortable effort long (or medium-long) runs. They're the runs that really help to build our aerobic base.

RE: VDOT - big Jack Daniels (legendary running coach ) fan here. I'd suggest anyone looking to improve to check out his book Jack Daniels' Running Formula. It's the Don of training manuals (now in it's 4th edition) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Daniels-Ru...&sprefix=jack+daniels+running+,aps,164&sr=8-1

I’m away at the moment and ran the promenade this morning - noticed on Strava it picked up some ‘challenges’ which I hadn’t seen before - jesus is there anything more depressing than seeing you were running at half the pace than others have done in the past [emoji23]

Bloody Worthing!
Edited in the AG for you Ted.

Good to have you back and many thanks for updating the table. I'm assuming - looking at your Strava - that running is still out? Any update on your comeback date/target?

I recall our 'Worthing 10k AG challenge', which if all were well, would be proceeding this Sunday.(Although I'm still not totally confident that I'm actually in it.)
I'm not sure whether to chase Artie's AG% in Saturday's parkrun or save myself for a half decent 10k on the Sunday. I'll probably fail at both.

Anyway, looking forward to crossing swords with you again once you are mended......................

It all depends who they are? Even worse to be running at half the pace that you have done in the past...............I see you are a fellow Worthing resident. Do you run the prom often?

Nope the achilles refuses to improve. 12 miles running in 4 weeks but a lot of walking.
Seeing the man tomorrow and half expecting him to suck air between his teeth, nod his head and say "Sorry lad there's nought to be done with that. However, 5 visits over 2 months might get it".

Good luck at the weekend. I have a Worthing number if you or anyone else wants it. Have you got yours or an email showing you've registered?

Looking at my Strava is not just on as I can't look at yours. You have a privacy lock on that prevents access.

Best of luck tomorrow.

The Strava thing is not because I'm super-secretive, it's just that I can't be bothered to post anything TBH. (I'm already on a couple of other running forums so tend to post stuff on them.) Plus it would be a bit of a challenge to learn how to do it!

Yes, have got an email re my registration for Worthing 10k. Weather should be good for this and the Brighton HM.
