Bloody Worthing!
Give me a couple of weeks and I'll give it a bash. I need to build up to speed first or I'll risk injury. Just had a nice 17 miler to Truleigh Hill. Gives me an easy Sunday 8 miles with 500' climb to complete the week target.

Not many takers for the NSC Golden Mile challenge as yet. It's a horrible run - not quite at eyeballs-out-full-pace but not far below it, and for my generation at least, the mile has always been a 'special' distance, thanks to Roger Bannister I guess.

Definitely a special distance but better on a track with other runners bursting their eyeballs out. They used to say I had a resemblance to Roger at school. Not lookalike but the huge protruding Adam’s apple, sinewy neck and strained face. They would strain their neck muscles to mimic me. Still friends today....

I can still see it...………………...By today's standards his training was lowish on quantity to say the least: 70 miles a week and daily runs in his lunch hour not exceeding 48 minutes. If he'd have ramped up the miles he might have been quite useful!

I go for a run round the park every morning just at the point where it starts to get light. Have the entire park to myself apart from the rare dog walker in the distance. Last April I completed the Brighton 10k. This April I intend completing my first marathon. Going by my Strava stats for the month so far, this should take me 27 days

Apologies if this is just stating the obvious and you’ve already done this but have you been to a running shop and had your gait analysed? I started running about 8 years back and had pain in my right hip after about a month. Of course, I’d been running with off the shelf trainers. As soon as I had my gait checked they realised I had a mild over-pronation and sorted me out with a shoe offering the appropriate support. Never had a niggle since. I’ve introduced a few people to running since and one or two have had a similar problem when starting with whatever trainers happened to be in their cupboard.

Gulp!
My current running trainers are an off the shelf pair of Reeboks which are about 10 years old and have seen better days to be fair :( I’ll treat myself to an upgrade post apocalypse.

I wouldn’t wait that long, I’d order online ASAP as you could do yourself some damage. Maybe a pair of cheapish neutral trainers to tide you over until you can get a gait analysis.

Not ideal but I’d imagine your current Reebok’s offer you no protection and could cause a more long term injury.

Big Nuts has covered this. I’d say that’s sound advice. The good news is that this is hopefully an easy fix. You’re probably just a properly fitted shoe away from running happiness, although I’d add it will take a few weeks to settle down, as whatever damage has been done will need a little time to heal.

Kurt at RUN is open for deliveries and advice. See https://run-shop.co.uk/ or tweet him on @RUN_Store and I’m sure he’ll be happy to help. I ordered some socks from him and he delivered withi 2 hours!

I might have a go next week. Normally every week at our track interval training session we finish with a mile. I usually try to get under 7 minutes which is manageable but of course haven't been for about 6 weeks, during which time I've become more of a plodder than ever, so curious to see what the damage might be! I see I've got to run 6:35 for a 70% AG. Hmm...

I might have a bash at some point. I’ve done a couple of runs recently that included hard 5-10 min segments so was thinking about trying anyway. At current levels of non-fitness would probably be 6.30-45 at best. What AG calculator are we all using ?

I’ll give it a go Tuesday or Wednesday.

Finished my highest ever weekly run total this morning at 53.4 miles to find I’d miscalculated the planned 4,000’ climb by 12’. So on the way to the allotment I ran up Sackville Road from the railway bridge for 40 seconds. Got home to the pancake flat Hove plain to find it was only 11’. That will have to do. Leapfrogged over Artie Fufkin with that 11’ for now....

Feeling so good at the moment that I’m scared to do the mile challenge in case I fail.

Just found out Barns Green have taken the early decision to cancel this years race. A real shame but understandable.

I’d imagine it’s 99% certain there will be no Brighton Marathon this year. I can’t see an event which now has a 10k, marathon and bike ride with tens of thousands in attendance going ahead.

I’d settle for just a few small events going ahead this year and hopefully normal service is resumed next year.

Congrats on hitting the weekly mileage peak Gaffer (that's some seriously good volume!) and taking the tape and top spot on the podium for the week's climbing vert! :clap2:

I might have a little crack at the 1 mile time trial this week.

Can you make sure you either

a) tie your shoelaces together or

b) carry a fridge-freezer on your back

(Preferably both.)

A few more folk showing an interest now. A nasty little 3 x .6km up a sharp hill today for me - and came across none other than Bozza (and delightful dog).
