What on EARTH are they? As someone with a tendency to heel strike I imagine I'd be landing half a second earlier than normal :lolol:

In other shoe news, that parcel which arrived yesterday contained my 4%s. I've tried them on and the size is right but a little tight on the toes. I need to give them a quick run on the treadmill to check if they feel comfortable.

:lolol: That's just bizarre - not for me in the slightest. Especially at the price!

My 4 x 1 miles around Preston Park at lunch time were decent, a little bit of wind whipping around and nice and chilly. 6:30, 6:15, 6:20, 6:08 for the splits and pretty comfortable for them all. My plan for Sunday's 20 mile race in Oundle is to run 5 miles at 7:00 per, and then 10 miles at 6:30 per, before dropping off for the final 5 back at 7:00 per. I feel like that should be relatively comfortable and would get me home in 2:15 would be about right I think.

Gave mine a run out on Monday. Felt loose before but stuck tight when running. Despite the shape they felt very similar to my extinct ASIC Hyperspeed 6. Only difference was I could not feel the power of driving forward although my time showed it was there (times are relative!).

This was my first speed session for months and I had no soreness or tiredness afterwards.
I need to set a good race time to be a convert.

-not many mountains in Sussex
-I don't run downhill very fast
-Not sure how a big protruding heel helps (for me at least, it's my toenails that get bashed going downhill, not my heels)
-£220 for something you'd almost never wear
-wearing these you'd look like a complete twonk

That's encouraging. I think I need to try them on a speed workout and some hills. I was chatting to our CEO yesterday, he's loaded and obviously has a pair of Next%. He was telling me to be wary of running downhill because you don't get a lot of stability in them. Given that Boston has a LOT of downhill I think I need to give them a proper test. I was also chatting to a guy from my running club who said his 4%s were trash after wearing them in a marathon, so I'm also wary of putting any distance in them before race day.

Talking of Asics, we had a shoe demo with them at my running club last night. I tried a pair of Novablast which have just been released. They're very foamy and bouncy but once I'd got used to them they were comfortable to run in. They did feel kind of slow and heavy though, which is very odd considering they're lighter than my normal shoes.

Here's something that was published in today's 'I' newspaper that should make everyone on the thread feel just a little bit smug. Tis is based on a survey by ASICS of 2000 people who identify as runners. TBH it is scarcely believable.

They do not publish a national average, just regions. So I'll give the data from the best and worst performing regions in each case:

Average mile time: East Midllands: 12 mins 8 seconds; N.Ireland 14 mins 42 secs

Average miles per month: Greater London 11.6; South West 6.1

Blimey!


PS on second thoughts perhaps not so surprising. If you look at the data at the bottom of any parkrun, you might be surprised at the 'average' times. And I guess parkrunners are keener runners than the average?

I'm a big fan of Asics footwear, all my running shoes have been Asics and I feel quite lucky that literally the first shoes I found were ideally suited. I'm quite brand loyal and all the time they're producing colourful shoes, they'll keep my business. I'm sure there's more science to it than that, but I have absolutely no regrets on being swayed by the vibrant colourings!

I'm a big fan of Asics footwear, all my running shoes have been Asics and I feel quite lucky that literally the first shoes I found were ideally suited. I'm quite brand loyal and all the time they're producing colourful shoes, they'll keep my business. I'm sure there's more science to it than that, but I have absolutely no regrets on being swayed by the vibrant colourings!

I thought I’d aim for 8:50/mile pace which I failed at, averaging 8:34 in the end, but it was undoubtedly the easiest run of that distance I’ve ever had - there was no effort at all.

Amusingly Strava then told me it is my second fastest half to date.

Do they have one? How much of their chat is about running barefoot to save on the expense of running shoes? Or do they prefer to run in clown shoes? :wink:

It is quite nice varying the pace a bit, no? Not running at a clip which is tough to maintain or that really stretches you. Especially in your case, without training for anything specific. Whenever I'm not training, I always drop any interest in pace and just go our for a period of time to enjoy being out in the world.

If anyone is currently thinking of picking up a new pair of neutral road shoes I'm absolutely loving New Balance's 1080v10. First pair of New Balance running shoes for me so didn't know what to expect but heard really good things so picked up a pair a few weeks ago and straight away they felt amazing. They're now my main go-to shoe for an everyday mileage shoe.

Lightweight but super comfortable, 8mm drop, responsive Fresh Foam X midsole, breathable upper, just a fantastic every day shoe to get the miles in. New Balance have come up trumps. Highly recommended.

Not posted for a while, been busy building up the training miles. Just over 3 weeks to Manchester, latest e-mail like all others says its on at the moment, but IF cancelled they are looking to run it in September or October 2020.

I ticked over to 301 miles for the year on Sunday, just one more long run planned and then it will be taper time.

All I have to do now is carry on assuming 5th April and then Brighton on the 19th of April will go ahead. If the bigger events get cancelled then I may hunt around for smaller replacement events, the one I feel most confident about is the Plumpton Racecourse on the 31st May one as there will only be about 100 runners max on the day. Its means the training wont be wasted as hopefully the Faroe Islands marathon on the 7th June will also go ahead as only around 500 runners.

Good running though, as ever. :thumbsup: I really hope the events aren't cancelled - right now, the magical month of October is going to be HAMMERED with running events. Everything is being postponed until October, I'm not sure there's much science behind that or every event is just hoping to ride it out in The Winchester.
