I went Sussex ale crazy at the weekend. I have some Bedlam Hoppy Golden as well as a load of Arundel, Adur, Dark Star, Hammerpot, Harveys and Long Man. Also have some very nice Sussex cider - twice fermented (including once in the bottle) Gospel Green. Couldn't find any Kitchen Garden Brewery beers (from Sheffield Park) - intrigued by their orange Hefeweizen. Also have something from the Meantime Brewery. A good little starter's kit to get me back in the world of ale....

Brewdog were mentioned repeatedly on last Sunday's Dragons Den. After the Diegeo issue, and the recent ASA complaint they really are the masters of free advertising.

I had a very pleasant Brewdog My Name is CENSORED lingonberry double IPA on Saturday. Very hoppy, bit fruity. Very nice.

Tonight I bring you Abstrakt AB:14 which is an Imperial German style Weizen Bock from the Brewdog experimental range. 10% ABV. A bit sweet but very nice; class under pudding beer.

I've got a Brooklyn double stout to close proceedings with tonight but at this moment I am thinking how well thisnOakham Citra is standing up against the Sierra Nevada and the Goose island. Different but very good. One of the rare ales that travels from Cast to bottle.

Nice. I love a big stout. Citra is a great hop, it needs a big amount of booze behind it to balance it in my opinion, 5-6%. Oakham comes in at under 5 but you reckon it works?

I don't think it bashes you like it did when it first came out with the hops. I sometimes wonder if they,ve toned it down because it does seemed balanced tonight, but then again I,m in a good mood at the mo........

Okay. Sounds good. And Waitrose has an amazing range of beers. Spoilt for choice.

I took your lead and am finishing on Brewdog Cocoa Psycho, a 10% imperial Russian stout. Then it's bed time...to be woken by the Frau when she staggers in.

I had a 3 year old Dark Star Imperial stout the other week. Really are quite good those boys.

Gospel Green is one of those quirky Sussex products that can be hard to find, but is well worth the effort. For price and quality it should be compared to sparkling wine rather than cyder. Other favourites of mine are Flower Marie cheese and Breaky Bottom bubbly. Not as trendy as the new wave of Champagne style Sussex fizz, but a stand out in it's own right.

Had a few rectory ales yesterday very nice the vicar uses a part of harveys brewery now as had to move put of his place at east chiltington so i thought id let you know its still a great pint and remarkably im not hungover but maybe its been blessed . Praise the lord.

Have you done the equity for punks as it looks like it is worth it for the discount?

Yes. I bought shares during Equity Punk II and now get 20% for life discount online, 5% in the bars and I also got a 12 months membership of the Abstakt Club which sends out 3 bottles of 'experimental' artisan beer each month. Great deal.

How much to spend is difficult to say. Delivery is £7 for up to 24 bottles so it makes sense to go for the full case of 24. Bottles from their core range are £1.70-£2.50, the occasional range is £1.70-£3.50 but some of the limited release stuff can be pricey. The Abstrakt range for example is £9.99 a bottle. It is also good to add a couple of interesting guest beers for a bit of variety; Mikeller is very good. For a case of 24 you are probably looking at £50+£7 for PP.

If you're not familiar with their beer it might be an idea to go to Waitrose or Trafalgar Wines in Brighton to buy a few bottles from the core range. The Southover Pub in Brighton has two draft Brewdog beers as well.
