Corby. Biggest town in Europe without a railway station. Not that anybody in their right mind would want to go there. Complete shithole full of winos.

Even though I hate London, it does have redeeming features like historical buildings, museums and theatres.

Wish it was in the EU
Portsmouth. I work there so am qualified to give a very informed view.

Obviously mostly unattractive-although bits like Southsea and Old Portsmouth look nice.

It's the people though! Inward looking, poorly educated (those school rsults!!!) and belligerent towards outsiders-although they can't se further then Southampton.

When the naval base closes you'l have the bigest economic catastrophe in the country with no hope of recovery.

I won't even mention that stupid stupid football club!

You may get the impression I don't like it possibly?!!

OK, I feel obliged to defend Crawley yet again. But what makes this bizarre is that you live in Croydon, more-or-less. Another place with an unfair reputation IMO but not to the same degree as Crawley.

Let's get a few facts straight here. In the 70s and 80s Crawley was one big concrete shit hole, no doubt, and until I moved to Reigate I didn't realise it was any different. But since the 80s, half of the horrible grey buildings have been pulled down and replaced. In addition, there is certainly nothing wrong with the shopping centre, there are no parking issues, traffic flows freely ALL the time, and get this! they even get things built! See the K2 for details.

On top of that, there is a smashing park area (Tilgate Park, highly recommended for those with kids), you're ten minutes from Gatwick (I guess Brightonians can only imagine living 10 minutes from work and being able to afford to pay the mortgage) and they've even got a football club playing in the Conference these days.

The chav element means I wouldn't want to live there, but I'm happy to have it on my doorstep. In my opinion, the Crawley of 20 years ago is not the same as today's Crawley because it is constantly improving.

Doha.

Lived and worked there for ten months. Awful.

Climate unbearable and has to be one of the most boring places on earth.

The problem with Crawley is that you have difficulty realising you're in England. A recent visit to Sainsburys was a good example. As a white face I was in the minority. The place is full of folks from the sub-continent. And this is my damn country!!

So is it full of "chavs" or full of "pakis"? It doesn't appear NSC can make it's mind up.

Personally, I think you're talking bollocks. I've been in Sainsbury's in Crawley plenty of times, and it's client make up is no different to most of South London.

I was in Crawley on Sunday and worked there fopr a long time. Having lived in Croydon and worked in Crawley I acn only open my heart out and say that Crawley is the absolute pits. If I am judging it the high ratio of scummy looking people to the regular looking people then so be it.

How many posters here judge Croydon by:

1. Crystal palace?
2 The view from East Croydon?
3 What they read in the papers?

From where I see it it has as many local parks as Crawley and a thriving community atmosphere, good schooling and commutability to where I work.

It also has bloody great Indian restaurants.

Whilst In Crawley shopping I saw three 'asbo' type incidents within the two hours I was there. It would seem that every other shopper was 'smoking in a public place', 'had a pit bull' and was dressed with a particular style in mind.

Just my opinion though,

I dont suppose any of you have been to Walsall further than the ground (which isn't even in Walsall). I've lived in Southsea too and if you really think Portsmouth is the worst town in England you have clearly never ventured out of the south east.

Worst town: Leicester!!!! - Terrible, all the high street is derelict and it literally smells!

Best town: Uppingham in Rutland

My sister's lived in Walsall for 12 years and you're right, it's not a bad town at all, particularly up the Bloxwich end - almost rural Staffordshire.
