Not bad, Gwylan -- four marks out of five.

'carminis aetas' is 'age of the poem' (The Sibyl's prophecy, to be precise), not 'poem of the age'. 'ab integro' is an idiom meaning 'anew' or 'afresh', which is what Roosevelt took as the reference to the 'New' in 'New Deal'

Thirty-five years on, I wish my math was as sharp as your Latin.

You cannot look past Obama.

McCain is a near geriatric with no new ideas and would rank with Reagan , Nixon and George W as a truly dire President. And if he popped off, then it would be that ghastly woman wotsername left in charge. No thanks!

Ah...I thought you'd missed a novus out. I didn't know ab integro,

What case is aetas then? Actually, thinking about it, it couldn't have been genitive as I put it, but I don't know what it is (it looks like an accusative plural but it's not that)

Who says you can't learn from NSC?

Actually, IMHO, Regan was a half decent President.

Partly because he had some pretty good people around him and partly because he let them get on with it, either by falling asleep during the day or buggering off to bed at 10pm.

aetas, aetatis, f. so the form is actually a nominative. I blew up a couple of fourth-year students on tempestas -- same shape -- yesterday. The more you remember that first-ever paradigm -- for me it was agricola -- the more you want to call forms like aetas plural accusatives.

But then I do this for a living...

And I'm a Yank, so the class I repeatedly near-flunked was most definitely 'math', in the singular.

I now need to know no math beyond M, D, C, L, X, V and I.

I would vote for Obama as I want to be a black supermacist.

The Americans can not be trusted to vote sensibly. We have had 8 years of Bush which goes a long way to tarnishing the sense and sensibility of the American public.

The whole charade of the US elections is mind boggling. Can you imagine a Prime Minister elect saying that (s)he would obliterate a country (Iran) if needs be? And that was the Democrats (Clinton)!

Hopefully sense shall prevail this time, but I am not getting my hopes up. Democrats have come out saying they will not vote for Obama as 'blacks are trouble'. Jesus f***ing Christ.

What is most astounding is that the US may have a Black leader before we do!

No polls on the TV at the moment for obvious reasons, but the Betfair market (2008 Presidential Election - Next President) says it all really;

Barrack Obama 1/20

John McCain 19/1

Joseph Biden 500/1

Any Other 1000/1

I assume Biden is 500/1 as that is the odds of Obama being assasinated between being elected and taking office.

They seem to be quite short odds, which is quite worrying.

I wouldn't put it past the US of A to produce a lone gunman who was intent on killing Obama. God bless the NRA.

I think it's the other way round. The US is 12-13% black. How high is it in the UK? (I understand that Britain as a whole looks rather different from the membership of the PFA...:))

[PEDANT ALERT]Actually, if Obama is assassinated between now and being elected by the college - sometime in December - then the Democrats have to pick another candidate (probably Clinton). However, if he is topped after he has been elected by the college, then Biden assumes the role.
