Had a website published a picture of me with my name on it, then I will not be happy.

What the hell can anyone do with just your name? No-one knows what you look like, no-one knows where you live

And more importantly... no-one cares.

No be fair I think this reflects very badly upon NSC.

Many people post pictures of themselves and parade around with the NSC names on the back of their shirts. But not everyone does and it should be their choice if they want to drop the veil on anonymity that this message board offers not that of some jumped up power hungry mod.

Sorry got a bit carried away there :D :smokin:

Clearly not the right thing to do however DTG has apologised and I am sure it will not be repeated.

At the end of the day will anyone actually remember or actually care Mr Chops as the offending threads slides into oblivion ?

As I posted on the other thread about this.....

Sadly your first name alone does not constitute a DPA breach. If I posted "Hello Andy" how many replies do you think I'd get?

P.S. I've worked as a Risk and Breach Analyst for a major financial company.

Difficult to wade in too much without knowing the whole story. But if it as it appears/has been related on this thread, and private information has been released, then count me in with the 'pompous twats' on this one. Very poor.

Sorry Woodchip, being professionally qualified counts for nothing against a bloke armed with 10 minutes worth of info googled off websites.

Unless it is a very unusual name like mine.

dont panic, The Data protection act doesnt cover internet message boards.

Even if it did there would need to be 2 pieces of personal info given to constitute a breach, your name is only 1!

everyone can sleep easy now!

Well steps could be taken including re-assurances that it will not happen again, removal of the person involved's mod powers and having having personal data only viewable by the administrator.

Well I've just re-read the DTG thread. upto the point you mention about your name being given out (all two of Dave's posts) and I can only see your first name mentioned. Oh, and neither of DTG's threads have been edited.

Tool. Can you prove that DTG got the information from the NSC membership information, or that he got it from public records? Your lawyer is blatantly cleverer than you, because all he can see is your rank stupidity which is obscuring the fact that he has no case.

Just re-reading this entire thread, at least there's one positive to come out of it. No one will ever make the mistake of seeking legal advice on here. What NSC knows about the Data Protection Act would not fill the proverbial back of a stamp.
