Nothing heard in Arundel ... There's a little church hall by the prison when you are there for a kids party you can see people popping little parcels of paper through the fence.

They rioted because the did not want to be breathalized (they're not allowed to drink). WTF is wrong with our prisons these days, if they're banged up, breathalize them if they like it or not, they lost many of their rights when they commited crimes, sod 'em - put them into high security places and see whether they like it.

Know what you mean, but if you're already in the cushiest nick in the country, I suspect you're not going to enjoy a tough place. Only 2 guards on duty in the prison last night I hear.

That doesn't surprise me at all, as it is only a category D prison, in theory there is nobody in there who presents a danger to society...most of the inmates are near the end of their term and are being prepared for release. Last year I met a prison officer from our local prison, which has space for 330 prisoners, their standard night shift is six...and that is for a category B prison.

If they struggle to keep hard drugs out of maximum security (something which always staggers me), then alcohol in an open prison must be easy to get and hide.

With all the cut backs and increased taxes we are faced with learning that convicts are enjoying themselves with beer and drugs makes a mockery of present day justice,we might as well let Warners run our prisons.
