Anyone know if the stadium is designed so that the N & S stand can be expanded / 2 tiered.

No. Expansion is the corners and East upper. I thought this would take it to 30,500 but it said on Sky the other day that it would be up to 35,000, I think they may have just got their figures wrong though.

I think the corners and east stand upper tier would take it to 30000. The seats have a small gap between them which will allow a shunt along. If they are all shunted together, then approximately 5000 more seats can be fitted.

I hear that 2 more tiers can be added to the East,by jacking up the roofs on the North and South at the Eastern ends, and in turn bringing the North and South stands roofs level, once this has been done, you can in turn add a 2nd tier to each of the North & South ends, fill in the corners and you have 50,000 seats.................:jester:

No one has yet been able to explain for definite why the central back wall panel in the south stand is unfinished, and also why the back wall panel in the south west corner is also unfinished. Some have suggested that boxes may go up there, but I'd really like to know the DEFINITIVE answer.

Anyone?

It can be 35000. It is ready made to go to 30000 but you could put a tier above the south easily and there's always other ways. Nearly all stadia are built to lift roofs and things but I'm sure you wouldn't need to change the roof for a tier over the south.

Think you are right ... Sky transposed a zero and five. 30,500 was made clear by the Club on other occasions in 2011.

But looking at WS and the high walls in the corners, it looks like the middle (1901) tier could be swept round significantly at both ends.

Maybe it will be a curled and sweeping down from the west upper tier, added to the South,in the western part of the stand, and a switching of home ends, from north to south?

It seems odd,and there is a reason for it i'm sure.

I dont know ,but this bugs me as well. Perhaps a proper TV studio in the SW corner to replace the "Withdean " structure used at the moment by Sky.

Nothing revealed, but I'm hoping it's for expanded e.g. middle tier, next season ... to add the crowds & look of the place.

I'm not a structural engineer, but I think a small second tier could be added to the North.

However I'm very happy keeping it as it is, with the corners filled in.

I heard there were strict planning restrictions which meant they would never be able to alter the roof structure. The only permitted expansion would be an upper East tier and filling in the corners, which would take the capacity to just over 30k.

Someone mentioned there was a possibily of lowering the pitch so extra rows of seats could be added to the front of each stand, but I can't really see that happening!

The atmosphere is incredible as it is. Imagine what it will be like when it is expanded to 30k+.

You might just have the answer,or maybe the ends could have half/upper tiers? i don't know,it's pure speculation..

Tier over East, 2 corners next to south will take us to 30k

At a push you could tier over the South and it is easy to fill in the Northwest corner whilst not having it go all the way to pitch level so you still have emergency access on that side.
