[Albion] No VAR tonight

Except Cole Palmer of course. Took him ages to remember there was no VAR so there was no point him staying down any more after Dunk's little tap.

But to give the lad a little bit of leeway, I'd take every opportunity presented, no matter how brief, to keep my face covered for as long as I could, if I looked like that.

It's strange isn't it?

90% of football fans: 'it's so much better without VAR'

Also 90% of football fans: 'it's not going away and we have to accept we're stuck with it'

There is no actual cost involved in getting rid. Yes money has been spent setting it up (albeit inconsequential in the bigger scheme of things). But those are sunk costs, and irrrelevant in any decisions going forward.

So what's going on?

I wouldn't have celebrated the Mitoma goal had there been VAR.

Ultimately it would have probably been given, but we would have likely had a 3 or 4 minute wait.

As a football fan I accept the risk that we'll end on the wrong end of a maguire style howler so that i can have the joy of celebrating a winner when we get one.

f*** VAR

I guess that we fans are powerless because we moan but don't properly mobilise.

When we do, like with the European super league, we have power

VAR is improving, and I think we (all Premier League fans) would miss if it was gone, when ridiculous goals are given against us.

I think we forget how many abysmal refereeing decisions resulted in unjust results before VAR.

But then again, it is frustrating not being certain whether a goal is a goal, when there is some kind of doubt being analysed by VAR... which is still far too common.

I expect it will stay. I hope it stays... but it does need to continue to improve.

The aim should be for fans to forget that VAR even exists during play.

If a lino sees a player clearly offside, then he should put his flag up straight away - none of this letting the play run on, which is utterly pointless and just frustrates everyone.

I don't think VAR should get involved with goals at ALL, unless the on-field ref requests it - or if the VAR team sees something so obvious that the on-field ref has missed, that it does not require slow-mo replays and lines being drawn to reach a conclusion.

The one thing that VAR does do well is the decision making process of red cards, it seems to get this right most of the time. Red cards are game changing, and it is important the correct decisions are made with this.

Dear BBC

Can you please STOP inviting Pierce to commentate on our games.

He doesn’t like us…we get it. His going on and f***ing on and f***ing on about no VAR and the goal would have been disallowed for handball….which actually looking at it again, it looked like his shoulder….is NOT a partisan commentating.

Thanks

The players seem to play the game differently in the absence of VAR too. There’s a far better flow to the game and seemingly an acceptance that they are engaged in a fast-paced, dynamic contact sport at elite level, with all the minor imperfections that brings, and not a sterile and binary computer game.

They seem far more inclined to just get on with it - and less prone to fabricating or exaggerating trivial contact that will appear like a heinous foul when viewed in super slo-mo multiple times.

What’s more, I reckon they enjoy it more too.
Very good point although not sure Pedro got the email. I thought he was thinking there would be a review for a non existent pull back.

But there's the myth? Tell me about all of those and particularly ones against Albion. And not forgetting how decisions invariably balanced out over the course of the season.

VAR is shit. BIN IT or…

Apply real technology (dedicated cameras/software/real-time reporting) and STOP re-refereeing the game. A blatant error gets overturned and apart from that everything is ref’s call. If you have to look at something twice, ref’s call.

Eh? Pearce's son is a Brighton fan and he's gone on record a few times saying how that he has a soft spot for us.

Let’s ask Leicester, Birmingham and Blackburn fans what they think…

Man Utd vs Leicester. United got the winner because they were at OT. This was always the way. OT was still a fortress under Moyes until VAR came in.

No VAR, you get the TV channels playing back endlessly why it should / shouldn’t have been a goal.
VAR and you get TV channels constantly replaying in the hope of finding a mistake.
Perhaps the best option is no VAR and no TV…..
