[Albion] No VAR tonight

Wasn’t it much better? Even though I’m pretty sure we should’ve been given a penalty for Gusto clearly hauling Pedro over in the box, I thought the game was vastly more enjoyable with VAR. Able to celebrate goals, not worrying they will go back and chalk it off for a toenail offside, not having five minute long gaps in the game because VAR has seen someone sneeze out of turn.

There were a few moments in the game where one side had a chance and I found myself watching the replay to see if the player would have been onside, and had to remind myself to stop doing so as a) it would be irrelevant as there’s no VAR and b) that isn’t, and should never be, what football is about.

Obviously we saw yesterday in the Leicester game why VAR may well be needed, and it’s obviously not going anywhere anytime soon, but I thought the game was much, much more enjoyable and flowed a lot better without VAR. Like how football used to be. But that’s just my opinion, and I wasn’t in the stadium tonight, so I’m not sure if anyone there had different thoughts on this?

Yes.

I'm sure I wouldn't have celebrated Mitoma's goal as I did - because I would have known there would have been the inevitable long drawn-out process to see if there had been one-two-or three handballs in the immediate build up. I wasn't at the ground - but even on telly it was better - especially as ITV don't really seem to do replays much.

I wouldn’t have put it past VAR penalising Dunk for his flick at Palmer so I’m delighted it wasn’t there tonight!
Me neither! But even on potentially reviewable decisions that didn’t go our way, I found myself caring a lot less about them and moving on a lot quicker. It’s much easier to accept that the ref just hasn’t seen something in real time than the idea that someone can watch something again and again on replay and still get to the wrong decision. And it’s much better for the flow of the game

VAR would have ruled out Mitoma’s goal for handball, similar to his non-goal at Spurs a couple of seasons ago.
I'm not convinced of that. There was handball in the lead up to one of Forest's goals last weekend (the 7th? can't remember) but it wasn't over-turned by VAR.

Wasn't 'hand to ball' either. Not sure Lamptey knew much about it. And anyway, handballs don't seem to count now if they are not by the goalscorer.

The best thing about tonight was that we won. If we'd lost, not VAR wouldn't have made us feel better.

Are Chelski fans celebrating the lack of VARF tonight?

I’m referring to this, the ball hits Mitoma’s lower arm a millisecond after this photo before he scores

Was that taken from the NSC Facebook page?

If so, I took the still from this video - I can't see it touches his lower arm, and I've stepped through frame by frame...

It is FANTASTIC celebrating a goal properly. I actually don't think VAR would have changed anything tonight - definitely not handball from Lamptey as per the laws, certainly not from Mitoma, the foul on Pedro wouldn't have been given or Dunk on Palmer but we'd have to wait for hours for everything to be looked at. Still, on balance I do hate a grievous injustice so I like it being there for the clangers.

I LOVED watching the frizzy haired tit pleading with the ref when Mitoma scored. It’s given, sorry pal, suck it up
