I don’t condone assault, it’s really that simple. The uproar you’re describing has been repeatedly mocked on here because of who the victim is - unsurprisingly by at least one of the users who liked your post. An echo chamber has formed that “it’s fine if they are asking for it with their actions”. Similar sentiments all over Twatter from those who hate Farage.

My rebuttal to that is who gets to decide who and what is “asking for it”. Someone who feels the opposite to someone else is always going to the feel the opposition is the enemy and “asking for it”.

Being me, someone who hates Farage, I consider the best way to make loathsome characters go away is to turn my back, fold my arms, and not give them the attention they crave. What I don’t do is endorse an action which has given him 100x more press exposure than he would’ve received otherwise, and making him a victim to boot.

Nowadays, there is a MASSIVE market for “pranks” on TikTok. Most of these are hugely idiotic but relatively harmless in terms of public safety, like say throwing milkshakes over people on the street.

But the need for likes and “engagement” (equaling more money and fame/infamy) leads people to constantly push the boundaries of acceptability in order to get that viral moment.

Taken as a single incident it’s a nothingburger which has actually only helped Farage, but the wider prospect of bandwagoning and the inevitable oneupmanship is a concern.

I just like to keep a bit of perspective.

And whilst I take your point about copycatting, from a legal standpoint we can’t judge this individual on what others might go on to do.
