Wrong, I'm not a contractor at all. I was on a fixed term contact as a full time employee and not paid much, don't make assumptions.

So you're working on a fixed term contract contract but not a contractor. ???

What happens at the end of the contract?

but that is a contractor: ie somebody working on a contract....

Its not at all, I am NOT self employed, I work for a company as a FULL TIME EMPLOYEE, nothing like a contractor. Most people have a contract of employment but that's not the same thing.

What do you think happens ? I think this is a bit over your head here. Read my previous reply.

Tell me are you as stupid as you seem ? You haven't a clue have you ? I become unemployed.

A lot of firms employ staff for fixed terms these days, my brother has a similar deal. We have a little bit more security as employees but as has just happened, not much. We are PAYE through the firm, not our own company or umbrella company, understand now ?

In a manner of speaking yes but the Contract market is shrinking, so much so that a lot of the Australasians who come here as they make a lot more than they do at home have gone back.

sounds like you're getting mugged there BHAExp.

Can't you find a contracting job?

No, too old and far too experienced, I've taken 20 years off my CV but its made no difference.

Sounds like contracting is perfect then.

Why would age have any bearing on you being hired for a contract? The reason employers are ageist (and I don't believe they are as much as people make out) is because they want you to stick around after they have invested money in you to train you up etc.

This is not the case for a contract.

So if you say you are 20years younger than you really are, what do you tell them when you get to an interview? That you had a rough night?

a contractor is somebody who works under a short-term contract, nothing to do with being employed or not.

so you were on a contract, and it ended. that's tough, but hardly unexpected.

I don't know what job you do but you know nothing about IT.

So Frank, we've concluded that you took a job that gave you a tiny salary and only gave you work for one year. And they terminated it early and yet you still get no recompense for that.

In addition to that, you knocked 20 years off your age to make yourself look like a junior. Presumably because you wanted to be paid less? ???

Are you a total mug? Or am I being stupid like Lammy, afters and dwayne?

you should pay attention to what Frank is saying here. It appears that there really are people prepared to work for permy rates with contractor levels of security. Shouldn't you be hiring people like Frank, dave?

i'm always a little uncomfortable to be honest seeing obviously middle-aged men arriving at the office on skateboards, calling me dude, and asking me if i've got the new rancid download.

just one of my little foibles i guess
