can you still afford to buy Mrs BHA?

Thankfully yes, your mother was very reasonable considering what was on offer.

NB Frank, as we have PM'd try my lot as you worked for us in a former guise and we have just signed a massive government contact.

PM me if you need any further assistance or help.

Cheers dude, I will do that this morning. As it is I reckoned they were the best outsourcing company I worked for and I have worked for more than a few. To be honest the mob I am currently employed by are pretty good too and this hiatus is nothing to do with them, they're not happy about it either.

But you're a contractor so it's not the same as being made 'redundant'.

Most contractors seem to think that they constantly get their contract renewed and are then surprised when they aren't. That is why you are paid a lot more than the perminant staff as you are being paid for the instability and flexibility of the job.

The sad thing is that most redundancies come around Xmas time as they have their new budget for the year. I was made redundant around Xmas time a few years back. My wife's company is planning their cuts around the same tim this year. Temporary staff out the door first.

The guy who does the same job as me and is paid double for the privilege was released yesterday, he knows it's nature of the beast that this will happen as a contractor and just went out and got something the same day.

There's nothing worse than a whinging contractor who's getting paid £500/600 a day and expects a job for life!

Zilch as I've only been with this mob since June.

So you've only been there for 5 months but been aware it's been going pear shaped for months - would that be about the time you started there?!?

As a contractor, I kind of agree with those sentiments and those of Lammy. However, the big difference is that I'm not 50+ years old. If I was and I still needed to work, I suspect I'd crave a bit of stability and would be taking whatever job I could get - contract or perm.

Still; right now I love contracting. It pays well, and as believe I'm fairly competent in interviews and on the job, the potential short term nature of the work is something I'm prepared to live with.

Exactely, it's a lifestyle choice.

But you can't then moan that you've been made redundant. When you haven't.

As soon as I get this job on my CV for another year or 2 I will be back contracting. It's so much better: the pay is incredible for the work, less politics, easier tax avoidance.

and with perm jobs not being as secure as they once were it's a no-brainer.

no pension scheme + lose money for holidays is still a right fucker though

Wouldnt change anything else , the politics one is a real plus point.

It's something I've considered as it's easy to become stale in a Perminant job. When you contract you are exposed to a much wider skill set over a shorter period of time. It's also a good way of getting a load of money together in a hurry. It's not something I'd consider doing for for more than a couple of years though.

Having a young family and a large mortgage stops me taking the plunge really.

Wrong, I'm not a contractor at all. I was on a fixed term contact as a full time employee and not paid much, don't make assumptions.

Nothing to do with me, a lot to do with the two firms I was working for. I know its cost both millions though, utterly ridiculous situation.

Not a contractor Dwayne and certainly not getting anything like what you think.
