Crouch is a good sidekick but he can't present at all. See his terrible Euros show on BBC1 in 2021.It all depends what direction the show wishes to go in. One of Lineker's reasons for leaving the gig is that the highlights package contract is changing in a year's time and BBC want to change things around.
If they want to make it more 'entertainment, less stuffy and have younger presenters' then it's a no-brainer - Peter Crouch would be perfect. Everybody loves him, did well for England, funny, played for loads of clubs, loads of stories, great on social media, not likely to rock the boat politically / morally like Lineker.
I'd bin off Micah Richards, and I'd have a weekly guest pundit that Crouchy could spark off. "Join me next week when our guest pundit will be Roy Keane / Eric Cantona/ Jermain Defoe / Harry Redknapp / Mario Balotelli. I'd love to see that.
I might be in a minority but I find crouch really irritating. It all depends what direction the show wishes to go in. One of Lineker's reasons for leaving the gig is that the highlights package contract is changing in a year's time and BBC want to change things around.

Or not...
There whole we want to make the sport less stuffy thing comes round quite alot, and the BBC do try it, and usually it ends up pretty badly.
Apart from the fact that presenters don't GIVE 'expert opinion' - that's why the pundits are there. But, yes, they are women. And the other one is the presenter you said it wouldn't be.2 women's expert opinion on the men's game is diverse.
Most people watch for the analysis, not the highlights. Then that's a good case for scrapping motd. We can all watch the highlights on YouTube.
The analysis always leans to the big clubs and where did they go wrong and not how well the smaller team performed. Load of rubbish I normally catch up on iPlayer and skip over the analysis. Most people watch for the analysis, not the highlights.
You make a good point. It's the reason the BBC have announced they are going to scrap the news and the weather on TV going forwards. You can just get it online. Then that's a good case for scrapping motd. We can all watch the highlights on YouTube.
I'll miss Lineker but also think it's clearly time for him to move on. I think for the vast majority of his 26 years he's been superb, but he's become far too podcasty in the last 12 months and 26 years is, frankly, a ludicrous length of time to do one thing (Wilson = 18 years, Hill = 15 years, Lynam = 11 years).Agree with others, happy with all 3 of them. Won't miss Lineker.l
Kelly Cates is remaining with Sky too I think.I'll miss Lineker but also think it's clearly time for him to move on. Chappers obviously deserves it and already does a fabulous job on MotD2. Logan fits into the same category as BBC royalty and is also great at what she does. Cates is such a coup and a huge loss for Sky. Not a huge surprise that they've got it right on paper though, appointing Alex Kay-Jelski after he built the UK version of The Athletic was a masterstroke by the BBC. No preening "how do you do fellow kids" bullshit from him.
A large amount of viewers are big club fans. There are more of them, therefore more who do not go to games. The viewership, and therefore money, in the game seems to come more from non attending fans than those in the stadium. The analysis always leans to the big clubs and where did they go wrong and not how well the smaller team performed. Loads of lower league fans must watch only because the EFL highlight show is afterwards or used to be.A large amount of viewers are big club fans.
