Whoever it is they need a new face that is not associated with the previous administration. The tories made the mistake of going with Hague and Howard (with the faceless IDS in between) and everyone who disliked the Major government remembered them and they couldn't shake the baggage. Milliband and Balls have suffered from the same perceptions. They would be wise to let Harman temp for a little while whilst they stage manage the likely candidates to come in with a blaze of publicity and a new vigour, just like Blair and Brown did after John Smith's death. Whoever it is also needs to have proper PR as a cornerstone of their offer. The public can see that it is now a necessity and it would be a useful way of distinguishing themselves from the Blairites who failed to deliver it for selfish reasons. It is also vital for the continuation of the union that all those of all political hues who did not support the SNP in Scotland (half the country) are given some representation in a UK parliament.

Personally I like Stella Creasy, but this is only because she likes the Wedding Present and made Toby Young look stupid on Newsnight.

Huffington Post says that David Miliband will be returning to lead Labour......interesting.

Another massive mistake if Labour turn to the ' other Miliband '....although people avoid the subject, the inescapable fact is that this country will not elect a Jewish PM. Disraeli was the last ( 1880 ) and although he had Jewish parents, he switched to Anglican faith. Hundreds of talented Jews have been politicians since then but none have risen to the highest office. In more recent times we have had...Keith Joseph, Leon Brittan, Nigel Lawson, Gerald Kaufman, Michael Howard, Malcolm Rifkind etc...all very capable but none considered.
Its a sensitive subject but there is a level of subdued anti-semitism at the highest levels of government and the people in control will never allow it to happen.

It has to be someone who has some fresh ideas and who can open up the party and reach out. Someone who has wide appeal and can win. Think therefore has to be someone from 2010 in-take so the party can move on from the perceived, often wrongly, failures of the past. So that rules out Cooper and Burnham. Chukka? Perhaps but Labour could do with someone who has a different back story instead of too often route of PPE, law, SPAD etc. I don't know much about him but Jarvis looks like he has some of those things.

The worst possible candidate. Even more unelectable than Ed.

Comes across as very arrogant and will do nothing to win back the lost Labour voters in the North as he's another one who represents the London political class.

You also can't discount the underlying racism that still exists in this country. Any black candidate needs to be the very best, not people who grate like him or worse still, Diane Abbott.
I really hope the party take time to get the right leader in this time, because unfortunately in a sad world of personality politics it's absolutely crucial to get this decision spot on.
