Boris is the only small chance the conservatives have of winning the next general election, it looks like Sunak is the only other viable option and I’ve seen better leaders in the conga line than him.

That’s not to say I like or support Boris but if Sunak the serpent is the only other option it just shows you what a complete shambles the Conservative party have become and there is no chance of Sunak resurrecting this dead horse.

Count Dracula,at least he'd be up front about sucking every last drop of blood out of the population plus we'd only have to put up with him after dark.

What leadership credentials does Sunak have?

Much as Boris divides at least he has some semblance of leadership skills, the reason Boris will get some backing from within the party is because the party is in dire straights, Sunak is a guaranteed GE loss IMO where as Boris has won a general election.

Johnson now the clear favourite on the Betfair exchange, which is remarkable.
Odds on what his main 3 word slogan will be:

Clean up conservatism: 3/1
Back out Brexit: 4/1
Build Britain better: 5/1
Get Brexit working: Evens
50p for Brexit: No odds offered, on the assumption he probably means 50p in the £.

Isn't one of the many/major reasons the party is in dire straights, er, Boris Johnson?

FFS, regardless of whether Tory idiots think he is the best person for the job (which beggars belief in itself), they are ridiculous for even suggesting Johnson. He will be suspended and we will lurch into another leadership circus. We need stability, this can't happen. Even the selfish, thick morons within that party must be able to see that?!

The country doesn't want the Tories to win the next general election, the country wants them to keep things stable and rebuild the economy a bit before they are forced to call a GE and then the next government can take things forward.

Individual Tory MPs want a chance of holding their seats, and for a lot in old red wall marginals Boris is indeed the best chance of them doing so.

But the longer term cost to the Tory party as a whole, and the country at large, could be huge. We need to move on from the divisive politics of the last few years, which means moving on from Boris, and Rees-Mogg, and Braverman, and Truss, and Dorries - and Corbyn, and Abbott, and so on. We simply need some boring-but-talented folks doing a boring-but-competent job of running the county, instead of treating government as a University PPE-degree thought-experiment.

If he gets to a Membership vote, Johnson wins.

That Tory Membership, as a group, have a terrible record of choosing terrible PMs.

The system needs changing.

Boris is the only one with a mandate to be a PM. He was elected for 5 years, he should serve the 5 years. Anything else is undemocratic and I would support an early general election if it wasn't him.
The Conservative party have a mandate.
