Well there are certainly no rumours that the money IS in place........we'll probably start looking for investors the day before the diggers are supposed to move in and offer the contractors 1/4 of their accepted quote and then be outraged to be told to piss off

I cant believe the club wont get the money in! Why would Dick Knight spend all that time going for the stadium and waste all that money in the first place?

I realise that the stadium is costing a lot more than first anticipated several years ago, but surely we wouln't have come all this way, then to realise that we don't have the money. Would we?

The rumours are from the usual suspects though, and are not based on any evidence.

Oh yes most definitely, however several still doubt it will happen

Think there would be a riot and Knight would have to quit if funds were not in place.

Getting the planning permission was a massive hurdle, I will not be suprised if raising the funds is not a bigger one with no guarantee of success.

I have heard that the initial soundings on the funding are very promising. The mood is said to be upbeat. Things are still in line for the building to commence by November.

I am not sure you can call getting the tender documents together and sending them out to prospective developers is "wasting a year", but I agree the process seems crap in that you would have thought that this would all be in place once the enquiry agreement was given.

Wasted? Do you actually know anything about the process of building a stadium, and this one in particular ?

I would have thought the money could certainly be lent to us from banks because we have the asset to secure the asset against, but ...... I think it would be absolutely madness to be taking on that debt and the inevitably high levels of repayments / interest against that loan / mortgage when there must surely be investors out there.

I sincerely hope that the club are "actively seeking" investors who could put a whole lot of money up for Falmer. If the current board are seriously expecting to be able to fund this all themselves, and having put in all the effort (of which I am truly grateful) are determined to still be the owners, when we walk out at Falmer, then I think we would be getting ourselves into unnecessary trouble.

detailed planning permission takes time and it was only the outline permission that was granted a little while ago>

anyway i think the club should sue ldc for the extra it will cost to build after there failed appeal

I should bloody well hope so!!

There is no way Knight and Perry could stay at this club if they fail to deliver this stadium. What worries me is Perry has a history (at Blackpool) of doing similar.

The tender process for a project like this is rather drawn out, but I can't see it can be any other way. If you try to rush this stage, then you are taking a massive risk of problems arising during the building process.

I work for a drylining sub-contractor, and the detail we go into at the tendering stage is mindboggling, and that's essentially just to stick up some metsec and interior walls. I can't imagine how much work goes into the tender process for the main contractor. There is certainly no way a main contractor would go through that process prior to all legal hurdles being cleared, which is what I wondered about previously.
