[Albion] New Ben White Rumour

This might be controversial but has White done enough to justify the alleged interest from bigger clubs? He has been good and of course any buyer is investing in his future potential, but personally I think he's still riding on the rave reviews of his Leeds days which were in the Championship. I could see some of the bigger boys wanting to monitor a second season before laying out a big fee.

I really hope he stays and I think we can all agree that Bissouma is the likely departure.

While I see where you're coming from about riding on rave reviews, among Brighton fans I think it's the opposite. If we had another young player come up from a loan in the championship (but without the hype) and go straight into our first team and play nearly every minute of the season, we'd all be raving about him.

Taking all the hype into account, I think he has easily met expectations for the year, which says a lot considering how high they were. To come in to a Premier League side and have such a solid season, even if nothing too stand out, is extremely promising. Give it another year or two and I reckon he'll be right up there as one of the better CBs in the league.

I love watching Ben White. He is so calm, so good on the ball, etc. But I think he pretty much HAS to play on the right of a back three. His height is a problem if he's one of a two.....when he's in a back three with players like Dunk and Webster he has licence to get forward (which he has the skill to do very effectively). Given Potter's clear preference for a back three, I'd be very nervous if we sold him....I can't see anyone in the current squad who could take his place (you might argue Veltman, but he hasn't got the same composure on the ball, and he's needed at RB anyway).

Not sure what's happening with Clarke (who seems to have had a tough time at Derby this year) and Ostigard (who is out of contract next month, I think???).

I'm resigned to losing Bissouma, but would be pi$$ed off if we sold White as well.

It really depends on the ‘leap’. I’ve noticed that young Lamptey for example, can beat a lot of taller players in the air because he is so springy.

At 6ft1, White is only a touch below the height of 6ft2 which seems to be the most common height of centre backs in the EPL/England squad.

As for White’s England chances, he is taller than Gareth Southgate!

I was chatting to a cov season ticket holder who was saying ostigard is obvious player of the year for them and how they want to keep him BUT apparently we have an option on the contract. I had not seen this anywhere before but this chap is generally pretty well informed. He is supposed to be quality and clearly different class to the rest of the defenders on the pitch.

I'd be tempted to cash in. Take the cash, promote Ostigard and/or Clarke and keep the supply chain moving. White's been brilliant for us this season but he is a little bit casual defensively and although I'm certain he's going to improve - I think this might be time for us to start selling to generate funds for purchases. We're well stocked at the back but we need more quality in forward areas.

It has been mentioned quite often elsewhere on NSC.

It's not a case of if he goes, but when - this summer or next. Next would be best, IMHO - another seasoning maturing further in the PL, especially if we convert a bit more of our Xg (or is it xG?) and move up the table nudging tenth place or thereabouts, and I think his value will have increased. However, I'm sure TB and co. have got a figure in mind which would buy him this summer - if someone betters that, I guess he'll go.
We also have to consider Ostigard - we need to keep him happy or he'll be off. Ostigard after a couple of seasons experience in the PL could also be worth quite a lot - we don't want to miss out!

We're in such a strong position. We have brilliant squad planning so we could sell him without needing to splash out big on a replacement and we can keep him if we want to because he's got a long contract and knows he'll be in the team and playing at Premier League level again.

The Athletic actually quoted Østigård himself saying we had a further year option.

As GT stated mentioned elsewhere on NSC previously quite often
More than likely by AZ gull I think ?
Option is for another year on Ostigaard
Depending on our transfer activity If we don’t integrate him into the first team next season
A bigger longer contract and another loan I think is more likely

Ostigard certainly seemed a confident young chap. I think the interview said the club have an option, but if he can't see a pathway to the first team he will probably ask to leave having played regularly in the Championship

Have to say Ostigard has been quite impressive from what I’ve seen and heard from Coventry. Really good character as well according to their fans.

I’d like to see him involved in the squad next season in some capacity.

His contract is up at the end of the season, will be interesting to see what happens next.

Same can’t be said of Clarke sadly from what NSC’s resident Ram has to report.

Hopefully we find a way not to lose another one for nothing, like Cashman. I'd like to see him staying with us, and probably playing first team football - if he and we can hang on until the 2022-23 season!
