Doesn’t he live in North Yorkshire? He has seen us plenty of times at grounds and easy distance from him. Not sure he needs to be travelling the length of the country in a pandemic just to appease some precious Brighton fans.

Would be a fair argument if he hadn't recently been seen several times at grounds in London, or if he had been down at any time previous to the pandemic. He has never been to watch us at the Amex. We are pretty much unique as a team that has been in the EPL for four years and not had a visit from the England manager. He has visited both Villa and Leeds for Championship games during that time. Nobody is being precious. Just stating the obvious. He has no interest in any of our squad. He has watched us once this year in our worst defeat of the season, when Madison and Justin took us apart away at Leicester. I'm guessing that he was there to watch them, not us and you can perhaps see why he didn't' hurry to watch us again.

It wasn’t evidence I provided.

It was your narrative. I think I will leave this now so you can concentrate on defending your other flawed arguments against the numerous people dismantling them. Sometimes it is worth reflecting on why lots of people are saying you have got things wrong.

Hope we absolutely batter the dirty Leeds later.

You and one other person. :lolol:

You haven’t really added anything either. Enjoy your day!

I see the ever reliable source, The Sun, have come out with an EXCLUSIVE that Roma have joined the race for our '£45m rated ace' on Mourinho's instructions alongside Man Utd and Arsenal:- https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/14922447/roma-mourinho-white-transfer-man-utd-45m-brighton/

Obviously every big club in Europe are following him. With todays scouting network and scouting data services, every club is going to be following every talented youngster.

It would surprise me (not a lot, but a bit) if he leaves this summer though. Think we'll see him for another season. But you never know, if someone puts £50m on the table its probably hard to say no currently.

Don’t crucify me here but is White actually as good as the bandied about price tags suggest?

Is he big and strong enough to be a top six/CL defender? I imagine he is quick enough and has good ball skills too.

To put my thoughts into words, who do you think we’d miss more Dunk or White?

I am in no way criticising or running him down, he has been great this season and has learnt quickly and slotted into Potter’s style pretty easily, I just can’t see him as a 40 million pound player at the moment.

What I need is the input of “defenders are my favourite players” One Teddy Maybank on this

I kind of get your point, White is clearly different to VVD & Slabhead but he seems exactly like the type of the centre back the new Premier League Champions like to have.

I don’t think we’ve seen peak White with us yet, it would be great if he stayed with us another season or two. But what White does have is the kind of momentum and reputation that players like Wan Bissaka pick up in a season, he is flavour of the month and a lot of top clubs are looking at him. This creates a bidding war that can hugely inflate his worth. If bidding wars break out for White and Biss this summer, both will be gone.

Finishing 17th (probably) and selling our best players; I can’t see what could possibly go wrong.

I agree.

He’s had a decent season but (albeit from my sofa) I haven’t seen anything to make me think he’s better than Dunk or Webster.

I do wonder if he hadn’t had that season at Leeds whether we wouldn’t be getting all this noise. Bissouma I get - he’s been exceptional in a key central midfield role, but White has had one ok season beside two high quality centre halves.

I wonder if he’s got a very good agent who’s got a bit of a strop on after Albion turned down the Leeds offer last summer. Result he’s now touting White amongst the biggest clubs he can think of.

You may be right but clubs are not influenced by agents in their choice of players, and there does seem to be plenty of interest from big clubs. I think I’d be just as gutted to lose Webster tbh

We are certainly blessed with quality CBs

As long as we bring Østigård into the squad I think banking a HUGE fee for White would be shrewd business.

A comparison with VVD might be useful. Whilst at Celtic, he really gained a reputation of being top quality, the best in the SPL. Much like our Ben in his last loan spell in the Championship, albeit at a much much bigger club, he was the best defender last season. He actually looks better in the Leeds highlights from last season than he has done in this season because the opposition was so poor.

The question was then, can VVD do the same at Premier League level? After 2 1/2 seasons and aged 25, Liverpool decided that as in the SPL, he is now the best defender in the EPL and paid the money, astonishing money. If the 23yr old White is on the same trajectory, we could have another season or two of the lad with us. What is undoubted is that he is recognised as having bags of potential by the people who matter and that he can be better than this season, maybe a lot better.

The difference between Dunk and White is that Dunk, whilst our best CB by a distance, is at the very peak of his powers.

This has only been Ben’s first PL season. He hasn’t even come close to his ceiling yet, such huge potential, hence the estimated transfer fee. All these big clubs are being linked with him for a reason.

As I was saying here the other day, if Ben leaves, there’s no chance he’s going to Leeds. It is slightly surprising that Webster is so under the radar though.

But continuing to rack up losses of £70m is not much fun either. This can't carry on.

Have the club commented on likely losses for this season yet?

I thought last season's losses were £70m due to not completing the season in the financial year, loss of matchday revenue and a £22m rebate to broadcasters.
I would assume it's only lost matchday revenue this year (approx 10m larger than last).

In what has been his first season in the premier league, he has had a few moments, where he has been out-muscled and Rashford managed to leave him on his backside early in the season.

What I see emerging is a very mobile defender, who reads the game well, is comfortable in possession and with the potential to be an outstanding man marker. I think he is hugely undervalued by Brighton fans in general. His defensive contribution, when we were forced to play Pascal Gross at wing back was just immense and I can see big improvements in him just over the course of one season. My view is that we should not be in any hurry to see him go.
