new baby advice

I've got seven days to go before becoming a dad for the first time.
Has anyone got any valuable little nuggets of advice?

A woman I work with has just told me to use a terry nappy over the shoulder when winding the little one, to keep my t-shirts clear of little bits of vomit.

Any more?

Get a load of muslins. They're dead cheap and absorb a lot of puke!

When changing a nappy have everything to hand. Get the new nappy on QUICK! Especially if it's a boy!

After having five nippers .... my only advice is enjoy the moment and the early years, cos they fly by too quickly and before you know it they are adults!

Good luck

PS

Dai and Rhys are good names for a boy

Rhiannon for a girl

and Dafydd if you aren't quite sure

Kiss goodbye to nookie, attention from the missus and any form of sleep for the next six months.

When she's giving birth, forget the small talk, she'll tell you to shut the fcuk up!

Seriously, I wouldnt worry too much, you'll figure it out, if your experience is anything like when I had my first, different midwives give conflicting advice based on their own experience, you just need to get yourself and your wife into your own routine that works for you.

good luck!

As long as you get on the phone to sort out Junior Seagulls membership before the umbilical cord is cut, the kid'll be fine. Best of luck with it all.

After the first few weeks try and get into a routine with the baby fairly quickly ie put it down for daytime naps at near enough the same times each day, bath before bedtime etc, it really seems to help settle them.

Remember to take loads of photo's, they seem to change day by day early on.

Good luck to you and the mrs

Start as you mean to go on is a good tip!!

Do you want your baby sleeping in your bed in 9 months time? No? Well then don't do it in the beginning...breaking a habit at 3 or 4 months is about 2 weeks easier than at 9, 10 or 11 months...that is unless you want to co-sleep - although remember most teenagers don't sleep with their parents so its a habit you'll have to break sometime...

Do a little bit of sleep training in the beginning and you won't be doing it in 6 months time...

Open every jar, pot, tub of wipes and packet of nappies, its amazing how difficult this is when you've a baby in one hand...

Routine, routine, routine - babies thrive on it....

Moments of madness at 3am are very acceptable  sleep deprivation is horrible but you'll get through it.... Arthur slept through from about 12 weeks.... (7:30pm til about 7am)

babies cry - they all do - its not a bad thing its just frustrating for everyone and mostly the poor baby - so don't feel bad just try and work out whats upsetting it - its usually I'm tired but you haven't taught me how to go to sleep...

Good luck!! :)
