Don't worry about a thing.

The first sixteen years are the worst :dunce:

Tell your bit on the side you want be able to see her for a while.

Muslim squares, good protection againgst the sun and have another 1000 uses.

Choose a time for the baby, when you will not answer its I am hungry calls at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in the morning. About 5/6 months in.

Its hard for everyone. But they will then have a good feed at nightand just sleep thru the night. And you will sleep as well.

If you believe in the environment. Get terries nappies and/or Moltex nappies which are 100@ biodegradable.

Pampas etc present occupt 4% of all landfill sites, the proportion is increasing daily and the gels want ever ******* break down.

Is the lass having a bath birth, absolutely recommended. Eay great for mum and baby and Dad. I drop a few drops of lavender in the bath and fell asleep at one point.

don't buy too much shit - we've bathed arthur in our big bath since he was born - we got given a "baby bath" and never used it, so had to give it away (you need to remember to bend with your knees ).... and unless you really really want to - moses baskets and cribs really aren't necessary either - at some stage you're going to have to transition them into their own cot - so why not start in the cot to begin with?

Oh sorry LC - I think water birthing is a total waste of time in fact I nearly drowned... so its one of those things you should try at the hospital if you can but be open minded!!

Or the baby?

Ha!! You'll not get any sleep for the first few weeks anyhow - so obviously the earlier you teach little one to sleep the better for you all!! Some parents believe that babies should be given the lead to do what they want - I always thought thats pants - I'm 33 and he's .5 - I think I know better :p

oh and last thing - if you're going to use washable nappies (the best option) the bestest ones in my opinion on the market at the moment are tots bots fluffies, don't buy em new - get onto ebay for EVERYTHING baby related.... all the stuff is there at loads less than retail...buy the nappies well in advance and make sure they are dry and washed and ready to slap on!!

however for the first 3 days - black poo comes out of them like road tar - best to use disposables then as it doesn't wash out very well!!

As people have said routine, Especially bed time.

If you can get your little one in to good habits as a baby you will have no problems when they are older, they accept it. 7pm Bath, bed, story, sleep worked for us.

Try and put him/her in cot awake rather then letting them goes to sleep and put them down. At first they cry and it can be hard, but it’s better in the long run.

Also so swaddling can be good, as they fling there arms around uncontrollably at first and wake them up by hitting them selves on the head.

Best bit of advice, Enjoy it. They are fantastic.

Good luck :clap2:

Practice sleeping standing up.

It's really embarrassing when you wake up in falling over mode with a baby in your arms at 3 in the morning.

The thing I found hardest was reading a story at bedtime. I could never read enough to put the kids to sleep before I was asleep myself.

Most of all, enjoy it. It really is great, despite the fact that your social life is now officially f***ed for the next 10 - 15 years.

Buy this book:

The Contented Little Baby Book

If you stick to it (it's hard work at first but try and keep to it), your life will be MUCH easier.

As Tedebear says, it's ROUTINE that makes a baby happy and this book is BRILLIANT.

The most important thing is, as OTLW says, enjoy every minute, because the time will go so quickly. Our youngest starts SCHOOL in September - unbelievable.

and after the black tar, if the baby is breast fed, it then turns to a nice runny green colour - very pleasant :lolol:

Must admit I was put off having a water birth by a film they showed at the antenatal class of the midwife having to reach into the pool with a little fishing net to catch a poo the expectant mum had released as she strained - I would have died if that had happened to me

Another tip - make sure you've had a few goes at putting the babyseat in the car before it gets time to bring baby home from the hospital :)

Take all advice with a pinch of salt. All babies are different, and don't feel guilty if you can't live up to child rearing ideals.

With our first son we were determined not to give him a dummy but after a fortnight of constant screaming we gave in. Our second son who is a year old today has never been interested in them in the slightest.

The best bit of advice is to enjoy them. Nothing beats when they look at you and smile. Be there when they learn to crawl and walk and speak their first words.

Make a complete cock-up of the first nappy she asks you to change, so that it falls off in the gentlest breeze. Back of the net! She'll never ask you to do another one.

All these post birth tips are fine but the most important thing is to get as much sleep as possible this week - it'll be a long time before you enjoy a good nights kip again.

Good luck nd hope it all goes well.

Make all your mistakes on #1, then turn around and have another, that you can get right. My pediatrican -- and I'm a #2 -- said 'Babies are like waffles -- you more or less have to throw the first one out.' You can recover all the sunk costs from #1 on clothes, furniture, etc. as well.

Practice sleeping standing up.
.

Amen to that. We were going to have our daughter's name changed legally to 'MacBeth'

"Sleep? Sleep? MacBeth hath murdered sleep"
