ace someone put up the blue aeroplanes! top band, shame they were from brizzol.

they were def more eighties though as were the house of love and the stone roses first album was 89 (pedant)

Super furry animals, ocean colour scene were my big hitters. but there were a hell of a lot of great bands around and still are.

anyone think the new sfa album is a bit rubbish?

No, I do think it's a bit up and down in places but by and large it's an enjoyable affair. I do wish they'd write a more poppy album again but that's just not their way anymore. It's still the most interesting album I've heard for a while, and I keep hearing new things every time I play it.

I will persevere, have only given it a couple of listens. first track is amazing then it just seems plodding. hhhmmmm.

back on the nineties, how about all the talkin loud/acid jazz mob. Young disciples made a fantastic record in the early nineties.

Funny you should say the first track is amazing, Crazy Naked Girls is like a proper rock song - a bit of a departure for SFA and not typical of their stuff at all.

The album has three or four top draw gems - Inaugural Trams, The Very Best of Neil Diamond and White Socks / Flip Flops, among them.

Chappers, not sure about you point about pop songs, they seem poppy to me. What about Where Do You Wana Go? I'm pretty much the same age as the band and their music seems to have matched my tastes all the way through.

If you're of a mind, Ondi Timoner's excellent rockumentary, 'DIG!' is a must-watch about the late 90's, early Noughties goings on regarding The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols intertwined trajectories...

Interesting that most of the selections have been UK-centric. To redress the balance somewhat, and off the top of my head:

Wilco, particularly Summerteeth and their Mermaid Avenue collaborations with Billy Bragg
Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road
Steve Earle's renaissance after being jailed in the mid-90s (the acoustic Train a Comin' is a highlight)
Bob Dylan - Time Out Of Mind (OK - hardly a new artist in the 90s, but this is a classic, so still relevant)
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Tajal Mahal - Sacred Island and Kulanjan (with tthe Hula Blues Band and Toumani Diabate respectively)
Ron Sexsmith - eponymous album
Lemonheads - It's a Shame about Ray

America did have the best music in the 90's imo, Rage Against the Machine, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, RHCP, NOFX, Pearl Jam and soooo many more great bands.

Hey, what about the dude on keyboards eh? Never knew he had such nice chesticles.
I have that cd, and liked it a lot. There were some decent low-lying bands from the US that didn't make it all that big here at all - perhaps didn't need to if they sold alright in the indie-world over in the big country.

There's also a band named Dig from around that time, their cd is great too (there's a used copy in Amnesty on Sydney St, incidentally).

Three pages, and no mention of the legend that was HADDAWAY.
You're all a DISGRACE.
