Interesting....only half the Doom Merchants squad have come out on this thread. I wonder why?

Im not worrying...we're top and given time Barnes and Fran will do fine. It wont be a disaster if we dont win the league anyway so we have points to burn.

Poyet had all summer to sort the striking situation. He fluffed it.

What exactly happened in the summer i.e. which players were we in talks with, and what were their demands?
Which players could Gus have negotiated a better deal with?
What would you have done differently, given the wage constraints?

Or can you not answer any of the above accurately, because you haven't a clue what you're talking about, as per usual.

Yeah, you're right.

We're top of the league and our two main strikers are roughly scoring one in three.

Seriously Gus, what a balls up.

WW, do you wear all black and have your head constantly bowed?

I'm stunned that there are STILL people out there who think Barnes can play up front alone. Jesus...... have you ever actually seen him in that role?!?!?!?
Yes!!!!!!!!
Multiple times last season and once this season, it's not ideally suited to his game but we still managed to play well, win games, and him score goals when playing that position.

There have been many comments regarding the failure to sign a recognised class striker and the problems we would have if Murray was injuried,we are now in that position.
It appears our only hope is that Barnes will eventually get the ball between the posts, but how many points will we lose before that happens?

Number of times Murray has "put the ball between the posts" this season - 3

Good.

If Saints away last season is anything to go by, Mr Murray likes the TV cameras.

So is he fit?

Just watched the highlights - the two chances Barnes missed were hardly gilt-edged chances - one a snapshot with the keeper on top of him, the other a high rebound that he just got his head too - but I guess we don't want the same ongoing arguments as last week

According to Naylor he wasn't injured. BHA physio says there's nothing wrong with him. Seems pretty conclusive, but clubs have been known to mislead the opposition. Sounds to me like he's fine.

And if we get a game like Southampton last year, it'll be a cracker.

I have generally defended Barnes on here but I feel the second chance (the header) could've been very simple, had he shown a bit more composure and allowed the ball to drop onto his head.

Maybe. But the way it came across on the radio was that he fluffed a sitter, and I didn't see that on the highlights. He was rushing in to take advantage of any rebound, and when it went high he had to slow quickly to get his head on it. He was jumping and moving forward when he headed it. He could possibly have slowed up quicker and thus had more time, but it did seem to happen very quickly.

I thought the header was a pretty sharp chance to be honest and he was beaten by the bounce. It all happened very quickly and his reaction time was very little. I agree it it looks a frustrating miss as the goal was GAPING, but I hardly think Barnes deserves the opprobrium heaped upon him for that miss.

I don't blame him. Do hope he sticks a couple more away soon to shut people up though, Murray's been working his arse off putting chances on a plate for him all season.

Agree. I think they make a very good partnership and Murray's contribution has been immense. He has certainly made fools of all of those who called him lazy.
