why would you need to interview your spouse, you know if they are capable or not? seriously, do you expect a business owner to interview their wife, children, family friend for a job? or are you saying that special rules must apply to MPs because, having voted them into set the legislation of this country, you dont believe they are trustworthy. if you do believe the latter, their employees should be the least of concerns.

I think you understand the point being made....it's a gravy train.

We suffer if they don't **** up. We don't need brilliant minds anywhere near as much as we need integrity, transparency, nobility and honesty.

This. We don't need rocket scientists to run the country.

Only if you know consultants and engineers/scientists that have moved out of academia and into industry. Or academics who are top of their field.

All doctors that have similar age and experience as your average MP will be in one of the pay brackets that is greater than the MP salary.

Engineers, by the nature of the job, tend to work in industry. And loads out earn MPs.

Rocket scientists tend to be on the autistic spectrum and a bit socially awkward - they'd make awful politicans.

That aside, you talk some arse sometimes. Of course it's better to have 650 brilliant minds running the country.

Simon Kirby deserves all he gets and more....if you see him thank him, I'm still dining out on £46 fish after his win and will do so for many months to come

Average GP earns £104k per year, most working Mon-Fri with little or no evening or weekend work, with almost zero chance of losing their job.

Are the poor barred from standing for election?

Great point. For all those moaning about how much any public sector worker is on, why don't they just get the required education and do the job if it's so easy.

I "moan" about public sector pay. What is it you're telling me to get educated to do? You're not being very clear.

Why do politicians need huge salaries. If they cannot manage with two homes, 3 x the National average wage, all expenses paid, per diems, social allowance, second home allowance, service and utilities allowance, travel allowance, foreign travel allowance, property portfolios, clothing allowance, luxury item allowance, entertainment allowance, wives employed to be their PA's effectively doubling their household income and all the above allowances, then I don't want them in office.
They are very well compensated for what is essentially a VERY easy job. It's a gravy train. Why do you think it's the Bullingdon Boys and the rich but feeble under achievers at college that go straight into politics? Because it's a very easy job in return for huge benefits. Don't kid yourselves, very, very few of them are your average citizen. They are rich and incompetent.

They haven't had a pay rise for over twenty years, that happened to anyone else?

(not sure how to quote your two posts in one, apologies).

SO you are saying they were paid £65k PA in 1995?!!!!! WOW. What a gravy train.

I'd say anyone claiming they haven't had a pay rise in 20 years is talking some rare kind of shite.
Their pay has almost doubled.

you're carrying some large chips there, i wonder if you know anything about MPs, or have cast your entire opinion on the basis of half a dozen from biased, sensationalist media views. my local Conservative MP is an ex nurse from a London council estate. rich and incompetent?

Inflation.

We've already debunked this - a source which shows no real terms increase actually proves my point.

Please watch yesterday's Daily Politics where Landale states this, and the above is dismissed, unless the Deputy Political editor of the BBC is also talking shite?

You might like to dismiss the facts. This is over real terms. So, no, I won't be dismissing it thank you.

I think the apt description would be Ostrich for you. Andrew Neil and Landale both have confirmed it is not real terms as have MPs from all sides and IPSA.
