Come on then big boy tell me what part of my post is being selective?

TB

You said three residents supported the measure and that 1000 objected.

However, in the officer's report...

3.10 A total of 3689 people responded as part of the consultation with 55 % in favour and 44.5% against the proposal.

Meanwhile, you're taking the number of 1,000 to include 881 was the number of signatories in a petition drawn up by taxi drivers to “Instruct the BHCC Transport Committee to defer their decision to proceed with the implementation of the 20mph Phase 1 plan and instruct the Transport Committee to consult the Taxi TradeStakeholders as per the Sedley Requirements”. - in other words, they demanded further consultations. This, which had nothing to do with any political party, they duly got. After that, there were not '1,000' objections, there were 33 (3 organisations, 1 business, 29 residents). The vast majority of the points were from B&H Buses and the Taxi Trade, and the report deals with their concerns.

However, if you continued reading through the report, you'll see that some objections had little or no validity. If you believe that the number of objections v number of supporters is the ONLY method by which a council - any council of any colour - decides its applications, you're mistaken.

To add, The council says as well as the postive consultation response, many individual city residents have submitted requests for 20mph speed limits on their streets.
In fact it only seems to be the GMB against it. Which usually means it's a good thing.

the tories proposed an amendment to allow more time for a consensus to be made. This was supported by the labour party. The greens voted this down in their mad rush to adopt this unenforceable policy.

The labour party proposed that all a roads and b roads that are bus routes be exempt. The greens opposed and the tories abstained.

It's worth noting that the police or sussex safety partnership have no approved equipment to catch out anyone exceeding the 20mph speed.

Over 1000 people objected officially to the proposals advertised in the traffic order, three residents supported the measures.

Welcome to democracy green style.

i made attempts to object, but was unable to, as the task wasnt the easiest, and required more man-hours than i had,.. Congrats to the 1000 who succeeded...

As a pedestrian, bus user, and train user in that order, with the odd taxi thrown in, I do have one issue with a 20mph limit which is pollution. Most cars, and nearly all motorbikes cannot travel at that speed in top gear, hence burn more fuel.

Most cars, petrol or diesel should be able to travel at 30mph in fourth gear at 1200rpm, hence just sipping fuel. Take most vehicles down to 20mph and the revs are higher in say third gear, hence burning more fuel.

If the police aren't enforcing it, then I'm not sticking to it.

I've carried on doing between 20-30 down Trafalger Road (traffic allowing) since they introduced it there anyway.

£1.5m being spent, why???? Today I drove from home in the middle of the morning for a meeting in Grand Parade. I would normally got the bus but had a next appointment up country.
From Valley Drive to Top of Upper Drive, travelled at limit of 30mph (couldn't have gone faster if I had wanted to due to traffic). Upper Drive to BHASVIC will still be 30 mph, did not make that speed. BHASVIC to Seven Dials, no greater than 15mph. 7 Dials to station got up to 30mph for 100 yards, rest between 15-20mph. Station to bottom of North Road didn't reach 20mph.

So, where are these extra lives going to be saved and why spend all this money when the traffic is regulating itself? Obviously the Greens trying to leave their mark for after they have been booted out. Sadly they will only be remembered for their cock ups.

Whilst we are at it somebody told me today that the central reservation up the Lewes Road, which was trumpetted by the Greens because of all the wild flowers planted, has been cleared.

Why was the Lewes Road changed from single lane to dual carriageway all those years ago? Silly me, it was because the volume of traffic increased!!!! Rant over.

When I was in Brighton last September it looked more like the central reservation was overrun with weeds to give it a more hippy appearance to any visiting tourists.

So has everyone else which is why throwing 1.5 mill at it city wide is MENTAL. I walk my kids to school along Trafalgar Road and while it has lovely new signage it is now much MORE dangerous. Also it is a trunk road.....

Not a surprise the taxi drivers protested. They seem to be the most precious bunch in Brighton. I'd definitely send them back to the rear of Brighton station if I could. Rather than they cluttering up the front and dropping passengers off wherever they choose. Causes tailbacks and holding up buses.

The 1.5 million should be spent on Government housing. We'd all like to have the money to live on Muesli Hill and walk into town. Try living on the suburbs of Brighton having to taxi Elderly parents about and children to after school clubs whilst working in a full time job. There is not enough hours in the day as it, never mind about driving around at bloody 20 mph....Also with the loony Lewes Road traffic scheme and London Road parking ticket prices which were putting peoples small shops on the brink. Bloody Loony Green party, roll on the next election so we can say goodbye to this load of tripe.

Disgraceful waste of public money by a party who have made Brighton the must unfriendly car city in the Uk. Hopefully they will be a one term wonder.
