More lunacy from the Council

You don't generally have to wait more than 5-6 minutes for a convenient bus, especially from the city centre.

That's true and if there were fewer cars snarling up the city centre then the buses would be even more timely!

The word I heard (from an insider) at 2.00pm today was that Labour had tabled a wrecking amendment. The outcome hung on whether the Tories supported the amendment.

Given the Argus have said the policy passed I'm guessing the Tories and Labour were unable to actually work together. I'm fed up to the back teeth of of Labour and the Tories being absolutely against working together.

At least the ridiculous 20mph zones wont be enforced by the police.

This council is still doing as much irreversible damage to motorists as it can. First remove all the dual carriageways that form he main arteries in the city (the drive, old shoreham road, london road), then reduce he number of parking pitches by putting communal bins wherever possible, screw as many ratepayers as possible by making them pay to park outside their own houses, then persuade people that cycle lanes are safe, then slow all traffic down to 20 mph. They moan about lack of funds and then spend what they have on this! Shit, we really need some people with sense on this council.
20 mph near schools is fine, 10 even.

In my own strange world
Cars driven in Brighton should be steam powered using recycled organic fairtrade wood(smoke and CO2 free of course) to boil pre-bottled mineral water from some poncy village in the arse end of France with some job sharing vegan tree hugger to walk in front of it waving a red flag hand made by some long forgotten tribe in the middle of who gives a shit.

The Tories proposed an amendment to allow more time for a consensus to be made. This was supported by the Labour Party. The Greens voted this down in their mad rush to adopt this unenforceable policy.

The Labour Party proposed that all A roads and B roads that are bus routes be exempt. The Greens opposed and the Tories abstained.

It's worth noting that the police or Sussex Safety Partnership have no approved equipment to catch out anyone exceeding the 20mph speed.

Over 1000 people objected officially to the proposals advertised in the Traffic Order, three residents supported the measures.

Welcome to democracy Green style.

Haven't read the whole thread so this may have already been mentioned ... whilst I've no particular issue with this in residential areas, it needs to be done properly. If I remember correctly Trafalgar Road and Church Lane in Portslade have 20mph limits but the side roads, the likes of St Andrews Road still have a 30mph limit despite having cars parked both sides? That's simply stupid.

Errr ..... unless somethings changed then if Labour and the Tories DID work together they could out vote the Greens. There would appear to be some scabs in the aforementioned parties !

I have never found a fare that is cheaper than using my bike/car.

DO you ever go further afield than Brighton?

Don't forget to factor in you didn't have to buy the bus !

Seriously though fares do appear to be creaping up to London levels in Brighton.

Up here I've never understood why people keep a car but millions appear to.

The hassle - it just isn't worth it.

5 Greens, 3 Blues, 2 Reds.

Greens then use the idiot Davey's Chairman's vote to carry policy through.
