I don't think there's anything wrong with numerous bids in the right circumstances as Arsenal have demonstrated in the past:

Ben White: Bid £30m, told he's worth £50, bid £40m, told he's worth £50, bid £45m, told he's worth £50, bid £50m = Job done
Moises Caicedo: Bid £55m, told he's not for sale, bid £60m, told he's not for sale, bid £65m, told he's not for sale, Arsenal fail in bid = Annoys everyone

To be honest, I still think that Bloom and Barber decided that he was going nowhere the moment he and his agents fudged that ham-fisted Instagram post. I actually think there was far more likelihood of a deal being struck had they not pursued that stupid route. I mean thanking Bloom for accepting a bid... So, so amateurish.

According to reports that is why the deal eventually broke down. Arsenal had been ' at it ' for weeks. Shaktar said that they had been negotiating directly with the player. They got thoroughly pissed off with the whole situation and as Chelsea were prepared to do business through the proper channels, they got the man.
It is clear that Chelsea didnt follow up their initial bid for Caicedo, respecting the BHA position. Arsenal chose to ignore our wishes. Seems like a lot of their fanbase didn't get the message either...." why didn't we go to 80million ? " ( puzzled of Islington )

I didn’t know that about the other transfer. Seems Arsenal doing their best to piss off their source of new players. Doesn’t seem very bright.

Not for me, I think the plan was always to keep him. We don't sell the first 11 until they are near the end of their contracts or we have a replacement lined up with enough time to get them in. All these antics with social media are an annoying sideshow (although I think Barber and Naylor seemed to be enjoying themselves by the end of it).

We never told Arsenal Ben White was worth £50 million. Even Arsenal have said at the time we don't give anything away, if we aren't accepting a bid it' a flat out no, no clues, Tony doesn't reveal his hand.

I don't think the social media stuff changed anything, Moises was never for sale, all it did was bring the story more attention and increase our profile as a club not to be taken lightly in the transfer market.

Caicedo was never leaving, many here said just that, people talking about "what price?" missed the key point. The club had contract law on their side and were immovable on this occasion.

I have a hunch and a hope that Moises is going to be fine for the rest of the season. He is not going to harm his reputation with sulking and uncommitted play, and he's not going to want to let his teammates down, particularly his S. American muchachos: Pervis will keep him straight! As we are so open about not standing in a players way and letting them go for the right fee and at the right time, we have no need to include a release clause and we'd lose that control instantly if we did.

Surely a new deal on massive wages would only be offered without a release clause ? The purpose of the offer would be in part to protect/increase his resale value. Anyway, they won’t break the wage structure for one player so it would be a case of making him one of our highest earners rather than anything else.
