4 months ago in a South American interview;

Asked whether he could reunite with Potter at Chelsea, Caicedo said it would be a “dream” to play for “one of the best teams in the world”.

He added: “Right now I’m very focused on Brighton and the World Cup. I want to have a great World Cup and then we’ll see what happens.

“I think they are one of the best teams in the world and nobody would turn down an offer from Chelsea or any other club like that. It’d be a dream to be in the best teams in the world and succeed there.”

Not being funny but to force a move now is very unlikely also from what we're led to believe it wouldn't be in his nature to go anti. It's only 4 months until the end of the season, giving him reassurance that we will be open to discussions then is hardly going to disturb his career.
no, of course not, he seems like a truly lovely bloke and not someone I imagine playing up, but he's still very young and has the potential to be influenced, either by chelsea tapping him up or by whoever these new agents are. so it's far from beyond the realms of possibility for them to give it a go, is what I'm saying, which is what I believe this incremental bidding tactic is, if that is indeed what's happening

£60m as mentioned all over twitter now. If we give in for under £90m I can see fans turning on the club.
Not if we sign Zaniolo for £30 million.
Begining to wonder if the timing is coincidental (I would strongly argue Zaniolo is a total shift in transfer policy).

Says every young aspiring player, ever.

Zaniola plays in a different position. I agree with @saafend_seagull. If we sell Caicedo in January for anything less than an astronomical sum then I think you'd see the first stirrings of unrest at our transfer policy.

It makes no sense to sell him now and would not only undermine our attempts to achieve something very special in the history of the club but would be a massive kick in the nads to RDZ and would act as an immediate buzzkill/demotivater for him.

A more positive and equally plausible reason for signing Zaniola(if we do) would be to say that it's the club fully backing RDZ. It could be a 'you did what you had to with Trossard but have lost a top quality and important player so here's an even better one to take his place. Caicedo is going nowhere until the summer. Now go get us into Europe.'

It could also serve as a sign to the players that we will, when necessary, splash out on the players who will immediately improve the squad. That is to say, we're not just a selling club.

It could be that. Or it could be a weak attempt to gloss over the cheap sale of one of our star, world class players. We'll know one way or another in the next ten days.

From our point of view there is absolutely no rush. Caicedo is getting better and better.
Both Man U and Liverpool would love to have him but are not in a position to buy him at the moment. They probably will be in the summer.
Reminds me of the Ben White situation a bit. Tony didn’t just take the first offer available. He waited and sold for much more.

I would strongly argue that signing a young, undervalued player like Zaniolo is in line with the transfer policy. He's just a bit more established and a bit more expensive than previous ones.

The issue with Moises which is quite unique to Brighton is his transfer value is so high , he would expect suitably very high wages to go with the transfer .

If one day he leaves to go to a so called big 6 club for £85m , his salary would be in the region of £150k a week not £85-90k like Trossard .

So the temptation to literally triple your salary in one move must be a lot regardless of how well we are doing .

I agree, but for the sake of 4 months I'd like to make sure I was playing CL next season as well as tripling my salary and I don't think Chelsea can offer that at the moment.

These parasites on Twitter who claim wages are already agreed prior to any kind of transfer fee being agreed are nonsensical shit wizards.

How would they get this info? I’m aware Chelsea are an absolute horse shit ran football club, but I’m sure even they wouldn’t go directly to the player and offer them a contract without the selling clubs permission, would surely be a breach of contract, they just make this shit up and people lap it up

I think clubs often sound out players via their agents as to whether they'd be interested in a move and salaries would be mentioned.

"Would your client like to triple his wage?" "Yes".

That kind of thing.

The agreement in principle probably goes as far as chelsea ringing Caceido's agent, saying "Will he be happy on 200k / week" and the agent saying "yeah".

It's just loose isn't it

Club to agent - 'would the player come here for 100k/week and a 5 year contract ?'
Agent to club - 'yep'

='personal terms agreed'

BS in this and many other cases though - £55m was laughed off as nowhere near apparently, so another few quid isn't going to make any difference to Tony's stance.

and who releases that information to these imbeciles on twitter who claim to be ITK? There’s never a source quoted it’s just guesswork and stirring the pot, ‘contract already agreed’ just makes these guys sound like they know anything.

As an aside, Given they are offering players 7 year contracts on astronomical money to get around FFP, Chelsea could find themselves in big big trouble in a few years time.

This was touched on a bit in the sky programme discussed on a different thread. Chelsea can’t talk to the player. Rules against that. Nothing to stop them speaking to agents. I expect the agents then speak to the media and say “agreement in principle” the media reports it. Player starts getting a bit unsettled. The middle aged men in suits tell the player to be awkward at work. Player does as instructed. Off we go.

New update from @CFCBerk... "#Chelsea have offered £65.5m + add-ons for #Caicedo. Terms are believed to be a formality as Caicedo is changing agents to force through a January move. Watch this one... 👀 #cfc #bhafc"

See anyone can make up nonsense to sound plausible if your audience is gullible enough
