Agreeing terms with the player doesn’t mean that much... see Moises.
I reckon they are planning their backup and I think it’s a ploy in a game of brinkmanship with Brighton.
Winstanley is probably determined to get one over us, or at least hold his own.
Romano starts most of his rumours with ‘terms agreed with player’. As you say - irrelevant. Chelsea are on an FFP tightrope so need to be really careful. Ajax on the other hand have extracted their full value for Bassey from Fulham and will demand £40m for Kudus up until the final day of the window when they’ll probably be up for a little less as he has refused to sign a long term contract. However, he’ll be gone by then. I hope it’s to us.

Kudus and Caceido are completely different players. I hope they get Kudus. Our attacking midfield options are ridiculously stacked right now. We really don’t need him.
Even though he has played mostly in attack for Ajax. My Ajax mate is adamant he's really a defensive midfielder and much better in that position. He also played a fair bit in a 4-3-3 attacking and defending in the middle of the park. I think both us and Chelsea are interested in his flexibility and would use further back if required.

The sort of quality and flexibility we were crying out for during the fixture pile up at the end of last season.

Hopefully we can sneak in and grab him with Arsenal and Chelsea restricted by FFP.

Still quite a lot of noise on this even from Rom. Gone from Chelsea certainty to us very much in the hunt, suspect that's him hedging his bets but suggests he thinks we have a chance.
Kudus would be a great signing.

Seems that Ajax have signed a replacement (of sorts) for £17m.

That’s the guy that was meant to me going to West Ham isn’t it? Some unhappy hammers at the moment. Sold their captain and signed nobody this summer I believe..

Yep…. Turns out selling a player for £100M+ then trying to sign replacements makes negotiations tricky …

He’s played one game as a defensive mid he must of been impressive.

....and at £40M he's a 'no' anyway. We've already bought a player for 50% more than our previous transfer record this summer. We are improving and getting 'bigger; in incremental steps, and it's working. Suddenly going in for much more expensive transfers could do more harm than good.

Everyone was saying we'd never spend more than 30 million on a player and we've just spent 34 on one from the Championship. As I said to people back then, 30 would obviously happen sooner rather than later and so will 40 if it's the right player.

Eventually, maybe.....probably. But not yet. Going to £30M is fine for now.

And the real issue is wages. When you get to players who cost £40m, the wage demands tend to follow along. I don't think out issue is particularly with paying big fees, but we do have a strict control over wages as I understand it. This will always limit our ability to compete with the state-backed teams.
