The people who don't agree with the view are white people who seem to be uncomfortable with black people protesting about their treatment and calling for equality, this is their protest. Who are we as white people to tell them that they shouldn't take the knee or we don't like them taking the knee?? If white people feel uncomfortable with it then so be it and that's no bad thing, it's nothing like the institutional racism black people have to live with every day. We should stand shoulder to shoulder with them and support their means of protest, which is exactly what Brighton fans did at the game on Monday.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t take the knee. I’m saying it can sometimes be counter productive. Further I am saying far more was achieved at PSG than at the Den last night. Who am I to say ? Well, I’m certainly not disqualified because I am white (and nor are you).

'extreme political views which they hold'

BLM support defunding / abolishing the police.

Yes that's correct. The players and EPL are calling for the police to be defunded. Turns out the EPL and the players are all radical anarchists and are using football matches to spread their word.

you are far too parochial to be taken seriously ......there is a very large , wild world outside the lovely villages of Sussex ....you know that right...?

Don't know GB personally but pretty sure he's very widely travelled. Shouldn't make assumptions Sydney :)

Well, I'm pretty sure he must have because otherwise how would I have known? But, as I've said many a time to you before, what's it got to do with the discussion here?

The days alive thread? Think I had a quick look, but didn't post. No secret, I'm 48.

I've discussed my time in Oz with you a few times!

Four years living all over Asia, several months on top working in India, other work travel and holidays / back packing. Done everywhere from all inclusives in Spain with the kids, which was pretty much an extension of Essex and Lancashire and yer actual third world shiteholes.

I wasn't going to mention it as a response as my takeaway from your post was that people take you comparatively more seriously :)lolol:) but Klaas is right and it's likely he knows due to various travelling stories I've popped on here over the years.

Interesting statement from supporters group.

They didn't need to react last night ( especially with bans being threatened ).

They proved their point on saturday and many will nod head in agreement.

Defunding the Police is primarily an issue for the American BLM movement and nothing to do with not having a police force. In America the Police budget ecompasses a wide variety of other services such as social services, mental health services etc. At the rational end of their movement the call is for that money to be diverted directly to those services and not via the Police Force. Of course there are some loons who actually think we can do without any Police :lolol:

There is a lot about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defund_the_police

I've seen comments from people that the argument more nuanced calls for reassignment of responsibilities so that for example, someone trained in mental health visits someone having a mental health episode rather than someone whose only training is firing a gun were ignored and never caught on. The snappy 'defund the police' while meaning the same thing for the overwhelming majority of people who use it, did catch on and made people sit up and take notice. Action has been taken in some police departments across america to make such changes.

Here's an article on Campden Police which is held up as an example of defunding the police policies working (though the article points out the motivation was different, and there were additional changes that had an impact). https://uk.news.yahoo.com/camden-nj...didnt-really-defund-the-police-105251107.html

And another article on the nuances of what it actually means: https://www.wired.co.uk/article/defund-the-police
